Thinking puffer, for a 5g ?

I have a 5g hex that has guppies in it, I am going to get rid of them.
Thinking about a pea puffer? Is there a different puffer I can get?

A pea puffer aka dwarf puffer is your only option with a tank that small. And only one.

Thats fine having just the one fish, they are so entertaining that one would be enough.
I also have a "snail" factory in my 10g tank so I would be able to feed it some good small snails as well (they are about the size of a pencil tip).

Now what water qualities do I need?
The pH right now is 7.4, well cycled tank (over 7 months old). And the water is med on the hardness scale.

Also does it need to be brackish?

Great lots of people get hung up on only having one fish in a tank...

Nope, these guys are purely freshwater. They need a well-established tanks, 0 nitrite and ammonia, low nitrate (preferably below 10, 20 max). I think your ph and hardness should be fine, they like a little higher and harder on the scale, but are slightly adaptable as most fish are.

And you're welcome

Yeah, and good luck!

And, if you get one, and want to let me use a pic of it for the magazine.... *hint hint*

Thanks, when I do get one I will def get you a pic.

My plans are to take over my mil's tank that she has issues with, and give her my guppies. As long as all she has to do is feed them she does a good job.
