The Amazon puffers are very cute, but they are not for a beginner puffer keeper. Their teeth grow so rapidly that even with a diet of snails every single day they will still need to have their teeth manually clipped usually about 1-3 times a year.

... strange question... what keeps them down in the wild then?

All I can figure is that they are chewing on snails all day long lol

Pink; i did read that as well that they need their teeth trimmed 1-3-times a year, but the guy at the lfs is trying to tell me these puffer's were amazon and from the pic's i have seen they look like your's lol p.s. also said they were dwarf and i believe they get as big as your's not sure as they are very tiny lol bella

hmmm... Calculating my current snail over population I could probably give them that. Without my effort my one ten gal alone is so over populated with snails I only drop food in a couple times a week. Red seems to ignore most of it anyway. Maybe a harder shelled variety of snails as well...

The Amazon puffer doesn't have spots, it has stripes, as you can see from the picture in the link fishking gave you. So I'd probably bet they're not Amazons.
Maybe they're just dwarf puffers? Sometimes they're called Indian Dwarf puffers...

I think the best thing to do is to do tons of your own research and not listen to a thing that the people at the store say.
