Depend what type of worms you think it has....There are many dewormers out there you just need to figure out which you have and what med you need.

The best things to use are:
Metronidazole and Levamisole Hydrochloride
Praziquantel
Fenbendazole

This article explains how to go about deworming

But what if you aren't sure if your puffer has worms? I wouldn't want to use anesthesia unnecessarily. I might kill him!!

You don't need to use anesthesia to deworm... just the meds.
The only time to use anesthesia is when they are so sick that they can no longer eat, in which case they must be tubefed the meds.

Oh, okay. So the after you get your puffer acclimated to your tnak (pre-cycled of course) and get them eating and stuff, you just add medicine? Will the meds hurt him if he doesnt have worms? Also can you recomend some brands? I dont have a puffer (yet) but it tis the season!

Most of those meds will actually hurt your cycle, so I'd do it in a quarantine tank before adding him to the cycled tank. He'll be fine if he doesn't have them, but in all likelyhood he probably does. The article there should list the brands, I'm not familiar with all of the medications, but I used Jungle's Parasite Clear with Praziquantel, it worked well on one puffer but not the other. So I guess it depends.

Okay, thanks. My quarantine tank is cycled, so I guess I would just add him there. Thanks for the help.
