Dwarf Puffers

I am doing all my research and planning now so that come spring (won't have startup money till then) I can set up a nice aquarium. SO I have gone through countless fish forums, fish profiles, etc going through breed after breed and finally fell absolutely in love with the dwarf puffers. So I started searching some fish stores (through sites online not in person) and checking into the fish stores that even sell through the net and ship them and I cannot find anyone that carries them but the info says they are very common and very popular. Can anyone tell me why this is? Are they no longer found easily or is it only at certain times of the year perhaps? Please if you have any information, I really would like to raise this specific fish and I want to know if that just wont' be possible or if I just need to time it right.

THanks in advance (and sorry for the ramble)

Tiffany

The reasons they're so popular is because they're a freshwater species, a tank we typically all have. Also, they stay small, about an inch long, and when given the proper care, are very interesting little fish to watch. Plus each one has a different personality, making each fish special, and different from one another

Hi tiffany
Glad to hear you want dwarf puffers! Brightens my day, lol
What I would suggest is to go to your favorite LFS, particularly one with a wide varietyof fish, and tell them you're looking for a dwarf puffer, and act REALLY interested in buying one. Ask if they'll order some in for you. Many stores usually will.

They are really neat little fish!!! I have 4 that I got from that Petsmart, I've had 1 for a year and a half and 3 I've had over a year, If you have a Petsmart near your home maybe you could ask if they could order them for you? Fish/pet stores have a list of fish they can order (I've worked at 3 different pet stores and the list is very long!!) If the dwarf puffers are on the list there shouldn't be a problem ordering them, although as far as I know they are all wild caught. I'd call your lfs or petsmart if theres one in your area and ask if they can order them. It probably would be best if you went in there since a lot of times when on the phone people will be to busy or lazy (lol) to deal with someone on the phone. Although sometimes you get someone who will help you on the phone. Anyhow I hope you can find some, they are fun!!!!!!
