f8 puffer love???

Hello! This is going to have been my first thread in a long time. I need to update my tanks now. Ive recently gone out and purchased a 45 gallon aquarium to house my f8 puffer so he may have a bigger one. But the difference between the size of the tank and him seemed too great, so i went out and bought 2 more f8 puffers for him! (yes, they do get along fine). Well Ive had them for about a month now and just today I found what seem to be eggs on a bamboo plant in the tank. So here are my questions. Has it ever been heard of f8 (figure eight for anybody who doesn't know) puffers mating in an aquarium? and is there any way to differentiate between male and female (Ive heard not). Thank you!

I think PINKFLOYDPUFFER is the Puffer expert, hopefully she'll be around soon to help you!

Good Luck!

Oh Minx, I think you give me too much credit

Figure 8s are similar to GSPs in many aspects, and breeding is one of them. If you have Figure 8 eggs, then that is incredible, but not impossible. I've seen someone who got their puffers to spawn and had GSP fry. There's no way to sex them (except dissection...)

Well (for obvious reasons...) I;m not gonna be doing dissections anytime soon!
I'm pretty certain their, I've set up a little isolation tank at the top right of the tank and (EVER SO CAREFULLY) put the bamboo that the eggs were on in it. I'll report any new babies that I may get! Thanks for your help.

This is very exciting! I can't wait to see how things progress.
By the way, do you happen to know what your water conditions were at the time of spawning? Or around then? Like temp, nitrate, hardness, possible salinity, etc. etc.?

unfortunately not, all i know is that the temp was most likely around 75-80F where it usually is. the pH right now is about 7.5, so it was probably around 8.0 when they did it. Sorry, I don't know much right now.

That's ok.
If you don't mind doing all us puffer lovers a favor, it would be really awesome if you would keep some sort of journal of all your observations with these eggs. It would be a great benefit to learn more about at least raising puffer fry.
