Otherwise, what fish do they like to share with, I may be prepared to set up another system eventually, and this would be a good project for me to base it around.

Oh yeah, don't want marine setup, i like to spend time on my fish, but can't afford enough time for a marine tank.

They basically can only be kept with ottos though, but they stay very small, about an inch. and you could easily keep 2 or 3 in a 10 gall, provided the ten gall is very planted.
