Ok think I got it.

Ok tryed doing research but still get different opinons so here gos bottom of tank should be sand, which kind, lots of plants, caves and their teeth dont grow so they dont need snails just as treats. My ten gal is cycled. moving some guppys out. Did I miss anythink Thanks.

Eye don't understand. Could you tell us more about your tank.

Some folks here suggest swimming pool filter sand, as being inexpensive, the right size, and clean enough to use.

What were the other questions you need answered?

I'm sorry, just reading the title of your post, and the words you used it was really hard to tell what you were talking about.

It helps to be as clear as you can. People really want to help.

Unfortunately, I do now see, this is about Puffers, and I'm not a puffer-person! Sorry

....since most of us are talking about dp's, i'll go with that. they don't have to have snails often, but dp's really do need snails. they do feel more secure with a heavily planted tank. They are a twitchy, busy little fish - oh man I miss my puff.
