Just got an AWESOME puffer: hog-nose!

Hi you guys

We went to our LFS for the first time in ages and they were really glad to see us. It's really nice to have a good relationship with a couple of them. They treat you like kings in the end (seen how much we spend on our little friends).

Anyways, he immediately greeted us although there was this huge crowd, and told my husband: THIS one's for you. This is the fish you've been waiting for all your life. You HAVE to have it. And sure enough, although he has absolutely no money this month, he bought it, along with the new set-up and a brand spanking new really posh outer filter.

The fish is incredible. It's a Tetraodon suvatii, and it looks nearly prehistorical in his patterns and roughness. He's really attentive and huuuuuge (well, about 10cm), which really dwarves our dwarf puffers.

Apparently, he's such a monster that there's no way you could ever have him share with other fish. He'd just massacre them.

He was in this tiny tank at the LFS and now he must feel like he's in a palace. We went to buy him some plants and ornaments today too.

Really exciting! Sorry about the essay, I had to show off!

I took some pictures, fortunately, as he's not doing well at all. He's really gasping for breath. I've checked the usual suspects (a'nia/n'ite/n'ate/temp/pH/unconditionned water/plastic-metal poisoning) and I can't find anything. Hopefully he's just stressed and he'll calm down. He's really cute, but I heard they could bite their owners. I also heard that their flesh is highly poisonous and you could die in 16mins if you ingest it! So beware if you were going to make sushi out of your pet fish! Anyways, I'll keep you guys posted on his health. Fingers crossed that it's nothing.

Would someone know with what to treat a puffer for finrot? I am concerned that he's scaleless, therefore way more sensitive to chemicals.

Sorry to hear that your puffer isnt doing too well. Hopefully it is just stressed and getting used to its new surroundings. I know nothing about the puffers, other than they have the cutest faces, so hopefully someone will come along and give you a hand with the meds question.
good luck with the lil guy...

Thanks, Kate. I'll copy this post to the disease section too, so it gets more attention.

I have heard of those poisonous deep sea puffer fish, does that go with ALL puffer fish? My goodness! You have to be very careful handling that guy!
