Puffers teeth are like rabbits, they continually grow. They need to have snails to file their teeth down or else the teeth overgrow and the puffer will starve to death because can't eat. I have thousands of snails, and sell them $5 per 50, for as many as you would want, plus the cost of shipping which is usually $5 for every 100 shipped. Send me a message on here or to sirsamuelt@yahoo.com I sell them on ebay all the time and they arrive alive and healthy even in the cold. I suggest keeping some for you to breed that way you will never have to search for more snails for him to eat. Frozen bloodworms is really the only other thing I've seen my green spotted puffer eat, they will not even think about touching flakes. Small crabs and crawdads would also suffice for them to eat.

There's got to be a petstore in your area that has pest snails, surely. Ours give them to us for free.

If I were you, I'd start a snail farm, as if you put the snails directly in the puffers' tank, they wont' get to reproduce and you won't have a sustainable supply.

You find snails a lot in plant tanks at pet stores.

We feed our dwarf puffers (I know, not the same as green, but it's at least some grounds for comparison) red blood worms as a staple diet, and snails as a treat.

Having said that, only some puffers' teeth keep growing and thus require shelled invertebrates in their diet. Do double-check whether green puffers are in that category.

We feed our hognose puffer (way larger fish) frozen shrimps. And I really mean huge shrimps. Like the size and width of your finger. That can work for your puffer too, as they'll have to break the shrimp's exoskeleton.

Just some thoughts. I hope they help.

Green spotted puffers are in this category, there teeth overgrow if they do not have something to keep them filed. With armadillo's mention of frozen shrimp, I'm thinking live shrimp may also be good treat for them, maybe ghost or cherry.

The petstore where I bought snails at sold them to me at 10 cents a peice just because she had to use a bag... a lot of stores will do that or just give them away.
