I got him - the puffer is mine!

It's been about a week now, and I have fallen completely under the spell of my little puffer. I have been getting it set up for awhile now, finding a nice tank, making plans, cycling, cycling, cycling, buying plants, cycling, cycling.

He is sooo beautiful (pictures yet to come) and so silly. He looks around the tank with this very curious, almost suspicious look about him, and darts his fat, tiny little body around when something gets him excited.

And SMALL, goodness is he small!

He follows me around the room when I'm getting ready in the morning and is the pickiest eater I've ever seen (which worried me initially, as puffers are supposed to voracious little things). He and the algae eating shrimp pretty much agree to ignore one another, but he's made no such promise to the snails!

Mercury the puffer is completely in charge of this house right now! pictures coming, i promise!

Hi Amorinthe.

Congrats! You sound like you've got a lovely one. Ours (we have 2 females, after the male died) kind of ignore us. They're really aloof to us.

What sort of a puffer did you get?

We were told that they took a while to find an appetite after arriving to their new home. Ours aren't voracious either, actually, if it makes you feel better. They never really understand that something is food.

Cuuute. He looks just like our two females (bar the belly, of course)

lol. i have no idea the gender on this little guy. To be honest, he was really really hard to find, and he was the last one left at the aquarium. I had no basis for comparison.

When he eats though - crazy belly. Aren't they fantastic hunters?

I don't know if it works the same for all species, but for our kind of DP's, but males have a really visible yellow line in the middle of his belly, running longitudinal to the body (not across, I mean).

It's funny, ours are really dim when it comes to food (and many other things). They're just not the daring, nosy little explorers I'd imagined puffers to be. Ours couldn't hunt a snail if it bit them in the butt.
