Jebo is a pretty good company. I never used there skimmers but my MH ballast I use is the greatest. Its my second fixture from them.

Re: Jebo 180 Skimmer + 1500lph powerhead on ebay

Hey serpent!!!

i too have been watching the same product on ebay, however im in Australia! let me know if you purchase it if is any good!

did you purchase this skimmer? im at the point with my tank where i know i need a skimmer, but can not afford one large enough for my tank (6x2x2)

can an expert tell me is it better to have a skimmer that is not big enough for the tank than none at all?? i think it is obviously yes...??

Just came back form the LFS with a new Skimmer, Jebo 180 and 1500 Power head.
The LFS stocks mainly Red Sea equipment, and I was told the Jebo was made by Red Sea and sold under the Jebo name. Anyway it retails for AU$125, and he let me have it for $50 with the understanding that if I wanted to return it within 3 months he would refund the $50. (Got our tank, stand etc from this LFS ) The LFS had one on a QT and said it gave them no problems. So I will set it up and see how it goes, and post the pro's & con's

OK, Will do.have allready made a modification to the discharge. it was splashing back into the tank as it was 1" higher than the water level so I made a extension to the discharge so now it flows into the water surface .

The JEBO 180 has been running non stop for 24 hrs.
One problem so far has been the amount of micro bubbles discharged from the skimmer into the tank. this is causing a build up of air bubbles on the underside of the rocks & equipment.

This happens with all skimmers to some extent. Is it a HOB skimmer ?

Yes it's a HOB, as for the micro bubbles, half the tank looks like its in a sand storm

you have to adjust the amount of air the skimmer is getting. Is there any adjustment screws anywhere ? If not try the place an air valve on the air intake, and lower the air flow.

The air supply has a control valve. the air is introduced via the powerhead.
ie more air = less water. The instructions state to adjust the air until the water level reaches the bottom of the bowl.... A vortex should be forming, but does'nt, so we reduced the air. this increased the water flow, but now the water level is 1/4" higher than it should be, and we have a vortex, but little air flow. I am starting to think the powerhead may be undersized for this skimmer.

Just give it time for the break in I say .... 2 weeks. If using HOB, there might be no way to control the micro bubbles going to the tank which might be unsightly. The words SUMP come to mind.

A sump would be the way to go. but due to the tanks location ( living room ) noise would be a issue. the sound of the overflow/siphon would upset the lady of the house, even thou we have 2 water features I can hear running all the time lol. I think I will get a HOB siphon and see how loud it is. may need to get the misses some ear plugs lol.
Thanks for your help so far

Like I said, mine is silent. There are a few ways to make them run silent with lots of flow. Read the following.

OK, You sold me on the sump! it will be a 80lt (20g) due to the room we have under the main tank. going to try the Hofer Gurgle Buster. will be fabricating the sump using perspex. the tank will look so mush nicer with all the equipment down in the sump. thanks again

Update on the Jebo 180 Protein Skimmer.
The micro bubbles flowing into the tank have reduced a little and the skimmer is now producing foam. still going to install a sump due to the amount of micro bubbles.

It has been about 5 days for the skimmer, no fish in the tank only LR curing
This is what the skimmer removed.

That's good for having no fish. Should be even better when you start feeding and keeping fish.
