hi there i live in toronto and there's some one on ebay that sell's Jebo 180 Skimmer + 1500lph powerhead for only 30$$ and i can pick it up are thay any good i was looking on the web and there some good talk about it
Just came back form the LFS with a new Skimmer, Jebo 180 and 1500 Power head.
The LFS stocks mainly Red Sea equipment, and I was told the Jebo was made by Red Sea and sold under the Jebo name. Anyway it retails for AU$125, and he let me have it for $50 with the understanding that if I wanted to return it within 3 months he would refund the $50. (Got our tank, stand etc from this LFS ) The LFS had one on a QT and said it gave them no problems. So I will set it up and see how it goes, and post the pro's & con's
OK, Will do.have allready made a modification to the discharge. it was splashing back into the tank as it was 1" higher than the water level so I made a extension to the discharge so now it flows into the water surface .
The JEBO 180 has been running non stop for 24 hrs.
One problem so far has been the amount of micro bubbles discharged from the skimmer into the tank. this is causing a build up of air bubbles on the underside of the rocks & equipment.
you have to adjust the amount of air the skimmer is getting. Is there any adjustment screws anywhere ? If not try the place an air valve on the air intake, and lower the air flow.
The air supply has a control valve. the air is introduced via the powerhead.
ie more air = less water. The instructions state to adjust the air until the water level reaches the bottom of the bowl.... A vortex should be forming, but does'nt, so we reduced the air. this increased the water flow, but now the water level is 1/4" higher than it should be, and we have a vortex, but little air flow. I am starting to think the powerhead may be undersized for this skimmer.
Just give it time for the break in I say .... 2 weeks. If using HOB, there might be no way to control the micro bubbles going to the tank which might be unsightly. The words SUMP come to mind.

A sump would be the way to go. but due to the tanks location ( living room ) noise would be a issue. the sound of the overflow/siphon would upset the lady of the house, even thou we have 2 water features I can hear running all the time lol. I think I will get a HOB siphon and see how loud it is. may need to get the misses some ear plugs lol.
Thanks for your help so far
OK, You sold me on the sump! it will be a 80lt (20g) due to the room we have under the main tank. going to try the Hofer Gurgle Buster. will be fabricating the sump using perspex. the tank will look so mush nicer with all the equipment down in the sump. thanks again
Update on the Jebo 180 Protein Skimmer.
The micro bubbles flowing into the tank have reduced a little and the skimmer is now producing foam. still going to install a sump due to the amount of micro bubbles.
