hey all i had an idea about making a protein skimmer... from what i get its basically.. a pump, shaft,and a "bubble" supply...

i have seen small ones in stores, that looked like- pump for water to the shaft, air line from bottom causing fine bubbles, bubbles rise to very top into a collection cup and right below the cup the water flows back into the tank. and keeps going in that cycle is this "all" a protein skimmer really is?

Basically, yes. I've seen DIY skimmers made with PVC pipe and a funnel. Are you going to try to make one ?
