The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

Micro bubbles returing into tank

hey i just bought a jebo 180 hang on skimmer.i need some help in trying to figure out how to reduce or stop the amount of microbubbles that my skimmer is shooting back into the tank. I have adjusted the water/air to make the water in the skimmer reach the top of the collection cup as the directions state. i do not see a vortex forming in the skimmer....what am i doing wrong?? this seems to be a fairly basic set up for a skimmer. any suggestions

Jebo 180 II skimmer..microbubbles returing to tank

Has anyone used one of these jebo 180 skimmers? i just bought one...never had a skimmer before, but from what i understand microbubbles should not leave the skimmer but lots are returing into my tank! i have adjusted the air/water control and have the skimmer set to run in the "optimal" range. the skimmer has only been running for 1 day i've heard they need time to break in?!? is that part of my problem?? any suggestions or mods that i can do to make the skimmer perform better? any help appreciated!

Not sure honestly,

I've heard that Jebo/ Oddysea brands are trash, but they've gotten better. I might try their 13 inch PC lights some day though. Just thought to give it a chance.

Did you position the bubble counter correctly?

Hi if you have had for only a day you should run for 48 hrs at the lowest setting so the bubbles are no where near the skimmer cup , should be half way up skimmer, then adjust,
if you bought this new , it should say in the setup instructions

thanks for the tip i will try that....the instructions state " the skimmer may need 2 -3 days for breakin period, before signifigant production begins. the only thing the instructions say about setting the skimmer is to adjust the air/water control valve until the bubbles reach the bottom of the collection cup. mine also doesn't seem to form a strong vortex in the reaction chamber...looks like a cloudy airbubble soup....will this improve with time?? it's probably the reason i'm getting so many microbubbles returing...
thanks for the help...if i can get this thing to work i'll post some picts of the skimmate it produces.

This is why you run the skimmer at its lowest setting ,

also you will have to keep adjusting the skimmer until its setteled in , you may find you set it up then it will just fill with water so keep a close eye on it for the first few days until it settles ,,

someone told me that the problem i am having with microbubles is because i am using it as an HOB skimmer and my pump is sucking in the bubbles from the skimmer discharge. so i either have to move the skimmer further from the pump or get a filter sock to put over the pump. The water level in the skimmer has stayed constant, doesn't seem to be "working" yet as there is no foam build up or its not foaming....my tank has been up and running for almost 1 year without a skimmer so i should have a bioload for the skimmer to work.... i'll just wait a few more days and see if it changes. thanks again!

For what it's worth, my new Remora Pro HOB skimmer shot micro bubbles for the first 3 days. Once it got a bit of a slime coat and broke in, the bubbles are now almost nil. Hope the same for you!
