Really lost with protein skimmers.

Hey everyone - I don't have a sump, so a protein skimmer i'm assuming has a narrower choice when i'm buying one. At first I was thinking just a hang on the back, becuase this is the one I knew definatly I didn't need a sump for.
Then I went into the LFS - and the lady suggested that another cheaper type was actually better (I cna't remebre the name sorry) And then she suggested a protein skimmer/external filter in one by AquaOne (Something like Marissa or masina - I kept hearing mixed reveiws about it). I have an AquaOne tank - but because i got it off ebay - its really old one they don't make anymore, and the cupboards are roughly 40cm along each (there are four) And i didn't think an external filtre or protein skimmer would fit under here.. I'm really lost.... Any help?
Has anyone had this protein/ex.filter from aqua one?
Anyone had a good hang on back one?
Anyone want to suggest another method I could attach a protein skimmer?
Can you get 'in the hood' protein skimmers (I do have a filter in the hood but it doesn't seem to do anything much)

Ramora C Skimmer. They have the hang on back kind, which is what I have. All thats required is to empty the cup once or twice a week depending on how much is skimmed.

And you have no sump? Have you ever had any other hang on the back ones?

I've used coralife super skimmer HOB. They're ok. I don't like HOB personally, but not because they don't work. It's just that I hate seeing equipments. They're to tall and you can't put them if you have a canopy. Unless it's as high as a MH canopy, but that would probably be bad for the skimmers plastic.

No I do not have a Sump. Currently I have no room for one. I'm running a 65 gallon FOWLR tank. When I upgrade I plan on doing a Sump. I like my Ramora C HOB alot though.
