The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.
I have one but since it's been running without fish food being added (I'm still cycling) I have no idea if it will work fairly well or not as it is supposed to. Some reviews I've read suggest removing the sponge but I let it there for now.
One of the reviews points out that the sponge needs frequent cleaning and that it takes some effort to adjust. This unit might place a lot of tiny bubbles in the main tank so I placed it in my sump, before a bubble trap. It seems to require somewhat frequent maintenance.

Where can you find reviews for it? I tried looking around for 'em, didn't find a thing lol. I think I am going to get this one, epecially for such a cheap price.
