Protein Skimmer Forum - Protein Skimmer info and reviews: Protein Skimmer Reviews, AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer, Tunze Nano Protein Skimmer, Octopus 800s Protein Skimmer

The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

SeaClone 100

I know the SeaClone got bad reviews but would it be fine for a 20 long. It would set in a 10gal sump.

Is it better than no skimmer? Probably. But for myself I would rather spend a little extra and get something with a better reputation.

What makes it so bad?

Lots of reviews out there indicating that it is not very efficient, meaning that it is not very good at removing contaminents from the water. Which is, after all, the point of a skimmer.

I Know what a skimmer does I was wondering if it would work better on a much smaller tank like a 20 than the 100 that it is rated for. Higher % of my total water volume would run through that skimmer than let say a 55gal. The reviews I read said it skimmed but not enough to handle there tank size and there tank size were 20gal more than mine. If any body or know any body that used one on a small tank like mine and had success or still had problems that is the ??

I agree that a better skimmer is the best way to go, the aqua c remora is what i have on my salt water tank at home and it works great, but it runs $150 or so. I do have the sea clone 100 on my 20 g tank at the school i teach at( due to cheaper cost and budget issues), it works ok, but sea clones are hit and miss on how well they work, it is better than nothing, but i would make sure and stay a little under stocked if using this skimmer and would suggest saving for an upgrade skimmer for the future

I would also recommend that if you go with the sea clone to stay on top of the water tests and water changes ( we should do this anyway), I would also add a power head to keep the water moving
