The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

Good skimmer for tight sump area?

Been cycling a 98 gallon with 125 lbs of live rock, and seems that the cycle is complete. Unfortunately the LFS that sold me the the Aquarium, threw in a free skimmer, that is a piece of junk. So before i add some livestock, im looking to upgrade skimmers.
By this time next year i would hope to have added 3-4 clowns, 2 tangs and maybe a flame angel. Im not trying to rush this and want to get it right with patience.
For 2 weeks ive been going back and forth between Bubble Magus 100 OR 150 , Reef Octopus extreme 160 or MSX 160.
The one problem that always enters the equation is my sump area. I have a sealife systems wet dry, with a very small cramped area, for a skimmer,Return pump, and eventually a small pump for a UV. The area is condensed to a 10x10 area, with a max of about 8 inches of water. I have looked for a wet/dry with a return sump area with more room to fit a good skimmer in, but cant find one.
My maintence guy says with the amount of live rock we have and eventual fish, the bio load will be strong, so i need to look at at least a 150 rated skimmer.
I hear a BM 100 would be ideal, but the BM 150 is more silent. I was also told that the Aquabee pumps are noisy............. With little room for error on the amount of water in my sump, do the BM overflow water regularly? Any suggestions?
