Protein Skimmer Forum - Protein Skimmer info and reviews: Protein Skimmer Reviews, AquaC Remora Protein Skimmer, Tunze Nano Protein Skimmer, Octopus 800s Protein Skimmer

The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

Coralife 125 question

I just got done putting the panels in my 30 gallon sump tank. Where I am going to put the skimmer I realised that the water level will reach 9". I read in the manual that It requires a 3" max water level above the needle wheel. So what can I do or is that not entirly true? Any input will help.

You can cut the tubing that connects the pump to the unit. Just cut it to get to the 3" mark.

So cutting the tube wont affect any thing as far as performace or any other issue that could arrise. Having the rest of the skimmer in water is ok? Thanks 4 the reply

For that skimmer, you'll want to have the pump be as close to the surface of the water as possible without creating a whirlpool/vortex. My intake into the pump is about 2" below the surface.

You can cut the hose it comes with to get it at the right height.

As already suggested, you can cut the hose, and/or use the skimmer as a hang-on with the adapters that come with it
