The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

Protein Skimmer help

Hi,
I am new to saltwater aquarium and I am trying to get a list of all the equipment I will need.
What type of protein skimmer is recommended? I am wanting to set up around a 20-40 gallon aquarium.
I want to have live rock, coral, invertebrates, and a couple of fish.

Would this protein skimmer work?

Although pic looks good, find out if this pump is replaceable w/o speding fortune, if at all. May want to look into Seaclone also (better known Co, I think).
Consider lighting option also which is alother important aspect of reefing. Powerheads for circulation in tank.
Look into sump/refugium option, too.

Do lots of research and reading before speding a dime. And PATIENCE!!!

Welcome aboard!

I had one that looks the same, made in China ( wish they kept it there ), it did pull some skimate out, but it put a heap of micro bubbles in the tank, you will get what you pay for.

I ended up with a skimmer that used a limewood block for the airstone, cheap and did the job, but it needs the stone replaced every 2 weeks.... not a top end skimmer, quite, cheap but a bit of maintainance, think it was a berlin skimmer
