The protein skimmer cleans the saltwater and completely removes dissolved organics and proteins from the system into their collection cups before they get a chance to break down further and cause undesirable algae problems. Protein skimmers also help in increasing the dissolved oxygen level in the aquarium water.

Nano Skimmer

Im looking for a skimmer for a 29G tank. I would like to spend less than $50. I saw two different nano skimmers at my LFS. One was made bu Oceanic for their biocube 29G, the other was made by Fission. Anyone know if either of these skimmers are any good, or can someone recommend another one that fits my needs?

Thanks

I have not heard anything about the Oceanic one. I have not heard anything good about the fission. Honestly, I am skeptical that you are going to end up happy with anything in a $50 price range. Unfortunately, skimmers are just one of those things that lose quality fast as the price goes down. Personally, I would be leary of anything under $100. You can get a red sea prizm skimmer for roughly $80...they are "ok", but certainly not great. Just my

I feel the same way. I've used and reviewed the fission, the red sea prizm, the aquac remora and the latest for me is the tunze nano skimmer. I'd go with the tunze or the aquac for a 29 gallon.
