Coralife Super Skimmer
I replaced my old skimmer with a Coralife SS this past Wednesday. Yesterday it seemed to cross out of the "break in" phase and is now beginning to generate some foam. The noise seems to be slightly less than the Prizm was, though definately still noticeable. The only thing I don't like so far is that it is far more intrusive in the tank when used in the HOB configuration than the Prizm was.

Yes. I'm getting some lovely filth out of it these days.

Yeah, the performance seems to be pretty good so far. Both the intake and the output are big/blocky intrusions into the tank, so sump installation would probably be better than HOB on the display tank, but at the moment I do not have the option for a sump so I live with it for now.

You can take the output box off once the skimmer breaks in.

Hmm...perhaps I'll give that a try. The foam inside the box just provides another potential nitrate generator anyway.

I agree...go with the 125, especially if you have added volume from a sump.

thats the plan...about how often do you have to empty the waste cup? i understand that this will vary because of all of the factors...but give me a ballpark figure...daily? twice a day?

When it is brand new you will need to keep a close eye on it as they can run riot and overflow on you if you aren't careful. Once broken in, probably once per week. I ususally dump and clean mine when I do my weekly water change. It really can vary a lot from tank to tank though, so yours could be very different.

I just picked up my corallife ss fit for 125 gallon tanks....it's alot bigger than I though, so I had to modify the plans for my sump, but other than that, I think I'm in love

Yep. I have a 55 gallon freshwater that I am planning to convert to SW early next year. I am thinking of going with the 125 for it myself.

Forum,
I'm borrowing a skimmer ,(Coralife 125 or 220 not sure) but I was wondering, if I plan to buy it can I hook it up under the cabinet with-out a sump.

No, without a sump you would have to go with an HOB configuration.
