| Indoor pond??
Okay, so I know that ponds are for outside, but I was kind of curious if its possible, (or even been done before) but is it possible to have a fish pond inside? Like not a dug in the hole type, but those pro-ish plastic container kind.... could it work??
**If this is in the wrong place, my apologies, it was not my attention** |

| Hello!!
It will work. You would have to set it up just like a tank.
Yes I've seen pictures of that. Just like a tank only you can look down into it. Need to support the sides if you use a plastic yard pond. Need good lighting if you want plants. Good filter and if goldies and some other cool water fish (white clouds) no heater. Can be made very attractive in a home....live plants around it, etc. |

| I think it sounds like an interesting idea, can't think of a reason why it would'nt work........ |

| My folks tried this but soon found the dogs wouldn't stay out of the water. Luckily there were no fish it in yet. It may not work out well if you have cats or dogs. But it would be awesome if you can do it! |

| cool, thanks everyone for your help and posts, they've been great....
i do have cats, so i would either put it in a room they can't be in (if i move), or some kind of top or cage to go over it, but thank you --> before of pets is a good idea i forgot, thx
but ya i'll look for some pics on google and that...
don't want to sound like a broken record, but would a lobster work, or probably not cause they'd attach the fish i guess |

| HellO! yes! they will work! i have looked into this several times, but i just never had enough $$$ to do it
as suggested by Tedstank, you need to make sure you support the sides of the container, so that it doesnt bend or buckle... |

| What I've seen (and think is amazing) is someone built a giant plywood "box" it was more then waist high, lined it with a pond liner and then did some work on the outside so that the fact it was made of plywood and 2x4's was hidden and it looked like a really sweet indoor garden sort of thing when he was done. <sigh/drool> I think I might have seen on the big cichlid site but not sure. |

| I have an indoor pond We wanted something a litter nicer than just a rubbermade tub for overwintering the outdoor pond fish in. It isn't as big as the fish should really have, but it works well for the winter months until they can go back out to the big pond in the summer.
It's made out of a half-barrel that I bought at a gardening centre. What I like best about it is that it is made of real wood and it came with a plastic liner. The all plastic ones are probably cheaper though.
It's very easy to maintain, I clean it less frequently than my aquariums, and it has never had any bad pond water smell. The fish are very happy in it, I've even had a successful spawn in there. lol
Here are some pictures, the plant growing in it is a big umbrella papyrus. |
