omg dumb dogs!!!!!!

I live in a smaller city that has alot of stray dogs. When the summer is hot they like to cool off in water. It pond is water. So far this year I have had 4 different dogs jump in my pond atleast twice each. We tried netting over the pond but that did not work, the dog fell in the pond and got tangled in the net. it managed to drag in a catus that was near the pond, uproot mynl lillypads and knock over my cattails. What is a good way to keep the dogs out? We don't have a fence and that us a costly procesure and we like our open yard.

Well, if you are not willing to put up a fense then there will always be a problem or you can buy a paintball gun. Probly cruel but once a dog gets tagged by that a few times it will learn according to my friend. Don't know what else to tell ya.

Is your pond level with the ground? My pond is built up with a wall around so it is not as noticeable to the dogs. I still have problems with cats, but the dogs usually leave it alone. My pond is in our front yard with no fence, so I understand not wanting a fence up. You may want to consider building up around the pond... Our original pond (when I was just a kid) was level with the ground and the dog were always getting in it and stirring it up. That's part of the reason I wanted a built up pond. I also like to be able to sit on the wall and watch my fish.

You could try putting some electric fence around the pond, It will discourage the dogs but will not hurt them. Once they get zapped once or maybe twice they will learn not to go near the pond. If its the same stay dogs all the time they will leave your yard alone so you don't need the fence up all the time.

The pond I have is a hard shell liner. I like the building up the pond idea but I would have to drain the pond and all that other good stuff all by my self, I doubt my dad would want to help, if it were up to him the pond wouldn't be there.

First off, I'd contact your DCO and have them watch the area.

My pond is a hard liner, and it isn't that difficult to raise it. Mine has about 1/4 of it down and then the rest built up.

Do you have leash laws? Animal control might be able to help you. Those dogs don't need to be wandering around.

Ya, we do have leash laws but by the time the animal control would get to my house the dog would be long gone. There are alot of forests and farmland so they would have a hard job.

It is a preformed pond that is about 180 gallons. I built the rock wall a row at a time when I got home from work.

Dogs don't like sudden loud pitched noise. Clashing two saucepan lids together will frighten them away, but of course you have to catch them red pawed! Do that twice to the same dog, I'm sure that it would think twice!
Mind you, the neighbors might think you look silly.
