How?

Well i want to ask questions before i get started. Since this pond is going to have just Wakin goldfish in it, I was hoping i could do a fishless cycle because i don't want to risk these goldfish dieing. But all the ammonia i can find as surfactants in it. And i can't buy cheap goldfish to cycle it because once that is done i don't know what to do with them since they get big and I want a pure Wakin pond.

So should i just get two or three Wakins and Really keep up on the tests and WCs? and Add the other 2 or three Wakins later after it's done cycling.

Or should i just get the pond all running then add some filter media from one of my tanks and Put fish food in to make ammonia?

how bigs the pond? how many goldfish are going to be in the pond?

just buy a few cheap fish and take them out once your done or you could buy some live plants, that helps a bit.

and yes do put some food in and let it settle and sink to the bottom.

Good morning. Do you have an extra filter on one of your aquariums or do you have extra biological media in your filter that you can use to SEED the pond (it will give you a jump start for your cycle)? If so it will make it a much shorter process to cycle. Just add it to the pond or add it to the filter in the pond. If this is an option let us know and we'll go from there.

Check out this thread: Get this dang thing started...

personally, i think you should keep hunting for the ammonia. have you checked ACE hardware? i had trouble finding pure ammonia in the local retail stores (walmart, target..) but found it ace hardware.

The pond is going to be 100g and Probably 5 or 6 Wakin goldfish.

I keep two HOB filters on each of my tanks so i can spare one for the pond and, or I could take some of the biomedia out and place it in the DIY filter i am going to do.

Paleo, I would suggest taking some of the biomedia out and place it in the DIY filter that you're making as you mentioned. Too, if you can spare some gravel, substrate, ornaments or rock from one of your established tanks that will help even more. Don't take out so much that you throw one of your aquariums into a mini cycle. Some believe that you could add fish right away (for gold fish may two) and others think you should feed the tank/pond with some flake food (no fish) for a few days, take your readings and see where you stand. If you do add the fish right away be prepared to do some water changes just in case you're readings aren't where they need to be. Keep us posted and good luck! please

OK thank you a lot! I have ammonia in my tap also, So that will also help the cycle More then likely i will add the goldfish later. So i may add some other fish after the tank is cycled, Then when i get the goldfish i will move them back to the tank.

I will post pics when i get the pond and stuff, But it's going to be a few weeks.
