Kordon POND Fish Protector -- doseage for aquariums

Mods, if this is posted in the wrong place, please move. TSM

I was having difficulty finding Kordon Fish Protector - most that would deliver via Post Office were selling Pond Fish Protector. The woman I spoke to at Kordon told me to buy from a distributor -- dah, I always ordered from them in the past.

Anyway, I ended up with the concentrated product for ponds, ( CHEAP! - @ Pet Mountain = $5.95 for 16 oz bottle) and emailed Kordon regarding doseage for aquariums. Here is the reply:

Val . What is meant is that we have distributors in the U.S.
and Canada, so local pet stores can easily order Kordon Fish
Protector or Pond Fish Protector from their local distributors. This
saves you from having to order from us in California. Otherwise you
can order from us to ship to your Minnesota address.

Pond Fish Protector can be used for aquariums as well as ponds. It
is the same product. Use ten drops from a medicinal eye dropper per
gallon. One teaspoonful per 10 gallons of water. One ounce for 60
gallons of water. For further information go to our website
www.kordon.com. Click on the Kordon tab at the top of the page. On
the Kordon home page see the articles under KORDON PRODUCTS,
including for Fish Protector. And for those under KORDON ARTICLES
see the the information there, such as for BEGINNING AND ADVANCING
AQUARISTS AND POND KEEPERS, FISH HEALTH, WATER CONDITIONERS, etc. /.R3

I know there were others wondering about the doseage --- what he recommends is I am sure the exact same doseage as on the regular bottle -- can't be as concentrated as they say.

Anyway...FYI

Have you used this product. It looks like it would be helpful, and similar to Maracide, except you would have to use a medication with it. Thank you I will keep my eye out for it.

I have used this product since it came out. It is not a medication..it has echinacea and B12, and eases stress; restores slime coat; minimizes infections and aids healing, and detoxifies heavy metals - not unlike NovAqua.I started using it when I first had bettas and seemed to be dealing with fin rot, and in turn too much medication. So I decided to withhold meds and use this product along with Vita Chem & lots of water changes. It worked, and I am sure was easier on the fish.

I am using it right now to assist in treating a red eye tetra that had either a bite or fin rot....he is just so stressed being in a hospital tank that is smaller - he came out of the 55g) -and being alone. He is also getting Maracyn Plus..and seems to be healing nicely.

I also used somein Pickle's tank following his flight through the suction tube.lol

Anyway I like the product.

I realize that it doesn't contain medication in the normal sense. It contains polymers that adhere to the fish, and will hold medication next to the fish. It creates a film that acts like the stress coat.

This is in essence the same technology that Mardel uses in Maracyn-Plus and Maracide.....that is why I referred to them. It is why those products caution not to use with other medications, because you could "overdose" a fish with a medication that was being held next to it when it wasn't specifically formulated to be used that way.

I went to the site you linked to, and this is all explained, as well as two medications they say are safe to use just for this purpose.

It sounds like a good product, and I plan to get some.
