My new pond

Now its rough *L*...but my youngest son and myself spent about 3 hours putting it together, and we are rather chuffed with the end result

The piece of wood wont be staying in there (thats soaking for my new tank), but the water lily and the other unknown water plant will be. I've got some gravel to put in the bottom, it needs washing first and i just plain ran out of daylight. I'm not sure wether to get a couple of small goldies or some white cloud minnows to put in it (must have fish by council bylaw for mozzie control)

I've got some duckweed type plant to put in there, and will pick up some elodea or such to fill it in a bit. The only sun it will get is some morning sun, the rest of the time it will be in full shade.

Holds approx 365 litres

I'm jealous, I want an outdoor pond! Do you have a hard time keeping it full? Do you fill it with rain water, or well water?

Are mozzies, mosquitoes?

We do have those, and there is a natural control I have used, it is a spray and you must have a state license here to use it.
It's called a biological Larvicide, the active ingredient is:
bacillus thuringiensis - species- israelensis - strain 65-52

It is a "nematode" that attacks mosquito larva. Works like a charm.

But why have a pond if you weren't going to keep fish!

Actually it has been pretty good with the water level, i only topped it with a bucket full this weekend, but then i took the driftwood out, so displacement of that more than evaporation was the reason for needing a top up.

It is filled with rain water, and yep, mozzies are mosquitos

I try not to use sprays if i can help it , but its got fish in it now so they will knock off the mozzie larvae in no time. Especially as i also harvest them for my tropical fish.

Looking good.

The other plant is a pathos.
It is not a true aquatic, but does like to have it's roots in water.

That log actually looks cool in there!
I always want an indoor pond and plan to build one in the future. We already established an outdoor pond with goldfish and koi. Last week we saw our fish for the first time since the beginning of winter even though its still 20F outside.

Good Luck!
