American Flag Fish!

Well, I'm kind of excited. I just got me three American Flag Fish for my pond. Supposedly, it is one male and two female. I'm hoping they will breed and do well in my pond. They have taken this rock shelf as their home - it is fun to sit and watch them "graze" on the moss. They are still a bit smaller than their full grown size, and their colors are just starting to show. I think they were fairly stressed from the trip home. Most of the pet/fish stores around here don't carry them, or are always "out of stock". It took me 5 weeks to find a store that actually got them in when they ordered them! Anyway, they seem to get along fine with the goldfish, and they sort of school with the mosquito fish - as long as the mosquito fish stay away from "their" rocks!

Thank you! I know it is kind of hard to see them, but they are there nibbling on the moss - they are still a bit shy when people are around.

Flag fish are great in ponds My dad has some that I gave him for his pond and they really help keep the algae at bay. They get along great with his goldies. Congrats on your new fishies! I hope they do well!

Thanks all - I was out this morning and saw all three still swimming around, but could not get good pics of them. They are schooling with my Mosquito Fish. My sister bought 3 at the same time I did, (1 male and 2 female, like mine) and she says hers are spawning. I'm jealous! Of course, her pond is 700+ gallons with tons of moss while mine is only about 180 gallons with very little moss...oh well, maybe she'll transfer a couple of her extra babies to my pond?
