a "The-thought-occured-" kinda question...

It there a minimum depth to a gold fish pond? I obviously covering the fish, but it the pond was in doors what would be the minimum?

The minimum depth is going to more be determined by environmental factors than by the fish. A wide, shallow body of water in a dry, warm area is going to evaporate quickly, forcing frequent refills. It also makes hunting easier for raccoons, herons, and other fishing animals.
The local fauna will determine what depth is necessary to help protect the fish against hunting.

The shallower water is also more susceptible to more drastic water temperature changes. Deeper water is easier on the fish and more stable temperature-wise. I would say a minimum of 12-18 inches though.

OK I was just sitting in my apartment and the thought of a like 6 foot wide 1 foot deep kiddi pool disguised by a wood frame or rocks or something and full of gold fish occured to me and I wondered how shallow would be too shallow.

Obviously if it's outside then that's different and since I'm a Canadian I'd probably need it like a minimum 6' deep to try and keep it from freezing solid in the winter.

Maybe not quite 6 FEET deep - - - I guess it would depend on where you locate the pond and if it is above ground or in ground. In ground would have better insulation from the cold air. If you did do a pond, you would probably need to do a de-icer or a pond heater, or something along those lines.
