It now has room to grow, so it will grow. Any pics of your fishies?

goldfish will grow quite large. Since you put it in a tank with fewer fish than it was probably with at the fish store, and then you fed it and it didn't have to compete with a ton of other tank mates, it grew. The majority of my goldfishies started out less than an inch long, and some of them are now a good 9-10 inches long (or longer). I'm not real familiar with metric measurements and I have a hard time figuring out litres into gallons, so I'm not really sure exactly how large their tank is. Just for your fyi, one goldfish needs 20 gallons with an additional 10 gallons per fish. So if you have 3 goldfish, then they should be in at least 40 gallons of filtered water. Mine are in an outdoor 150+ gallon pond, so they have lots of swimming room. They usually grow quite fast. I had one born in my pond last summer that is already a good 6 inches long (at less than 1 year old).

55L is about 14 gallons, correct?
That is much too small for even one goldfish.

Alrightm so then your best bet is to either upgrade to a 55 gal., or sell the fihs back to your LFS. The fish will outgrow a 14 gal. tank quickly.

Goldfish do grow very fast. 14 gallons is awful small for even one goldfish, although it would work for one for a few months while a larger tank was cycling. Just for comparison sake, here are a couple of pics of some of my goldies. I put them in a 2 1/2 gallon tank for the pics. The orange one in with the black one is the baby that was born in my pond this last summer. These fish started out as feeder goldfish from WalMart.

I never knew goldfish were that big! When I see a goldfish in my mind it's in a cruel teeny tiny fishbowl with no lid and they end up jumping out . . . POOF! Dead.

My sister's pond is larger, and she has had some of her goldfish longer. There are a couple of her fish that are almost twice the size of mine. I would not be able to put hers in the 2 1/2 gallon to take a pic because they would not fit. They would have to go into the 10 gallon (and they probably wouldn't be able to turn around!).

55L is small for goldies but they are worth the expense of upgrading. Your little guy is obviously really happy if s/he is chowing down and growing. I push the capacity on my indoor wintering quarters but I keep a sharp eye on water quality, filtration and circulation. Good luck and enjoy!!
