I am now the proud owner of 2 Gorgeous Goldfish!

Today my husband took me to get a nice suprise to put in my 29 gallon tank. I had wanted a brackish set up, but since that is not do-able for us right now, he thought I might want to try something different.

I went to Petsmart and got two beauftiful young goldfish. One is a Calico Ryukin, and the other is a Red Top Oranda. They seem to really like their new home. As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) I am pretty much stocked in a 29 gallon with two goldfish. They are both about 2 inches long at the moment, but they will get to be 6 inches.

Its funny cause with as many fish as I have owned, I have never kept goldfish before (not even as a kid). This is a whole new experience for me. The Calico is named Sumo and the red top is named Munchkin. I got Omega One Goldfish Pellets for them. If anyone has any other advice, I'd be happy to hear it. Take a look at the pics!

Yes that is all you should have in that tank. They usually run 20g for one goldfish and 10g per goldfish after that...
They are beautiful!

Thanks They are so funny. They really do act a lot like bettas, but the way that they swim cracks me up! My husband keeps asking if they have swim bladder problems and I keep telling him, Nope, they just wiggle when they swim, lol.

yep they're so chubby, they wiggle ALOT!

i was having swim bladder problems, so now i soak their food before feeding so it sinks and they don't gulp air when eating.

and once a week, i soak their food in garlic guard.

Lol! I named the big one Sumo because he is so fat that he reminds me of a Sumo wrestler I got sinking pellets, but I will be sure to do the garlic once a week like I do for my bettas

Thanks What kind of goldies did you have? They were lucky to have such a nice spacious tank to themselves. Not as lucky as spoiled little Will though

They looked like your white one with the red on them...What are they? One was solid red and the other one was white with a red cap on.....They were both darling...I miss them....

Will said he is glad they had a nice life but he loves his home lol

My white with the red cap is a red top oranda. It will get kind of a puffy bump on the top of his head when he gets older though. If yours didn't have that they were probably fantails or Ryunkins.

I am sure going from a cup to a 55 gallon tank was like a homeless man striking it rich in his eyes. Poor little guy. I know he wouldn't trade his home for anything, and I am sure he would not share with a couple of goldfish lol.

Aww they remind me of my Yoko & Scarface... may they rest in peace. :/

Those are some really pretty little goldfish! I love how they wag their tails when they swim. Congrats to you, and to them on their lovely new home!

I call those the "weeble fish" because of the way they wobble through the water - you know, "weebles wobble but they don't fall down". Yes, I'm old, I remember Weebles. Soaking the pellets for a bit before putting them in works well. If you pinch them, it gets the air out of them and flattens them a bit so they sink a little slower. Some of my older goldfish that I have had for a while will eat out of my fingers. I also give them tubifex worm cubes as a treat. I hold the cube down in the water and they come and nibble at it. My mosquito fish really tear into the cubes. A couple of my biggest/oldest fish even let me pet them, now if only I could teach them to swim through hoops...
