| Hello Red. I've looked into having a salt tank before but decided it was not for me. I love to see salt tanks of other members though.

| You should give it a try. It's a whole new different worlds and it's more addicting I think.
I'm thinking of stopping my 29 and 10 gallon though. I feel like I can't give them the best health because I have way too many tanks, but at the same time, They look so happy and I want to keep them. I feel like a public aquarium in my house lol. |

My main tanks are all FW, all 19 of them.

| I have both 4 -FW and 2 SW. The SW is new and I'm still on a learning curve with it however I'm really enjoying the challenge. Mainly I worry about being away overnight or on vacation with the SW tanks. I have folks around that I trust with my FW but I don't know if they are up for target feeding in the Sw tanks. I |

| The thing with the SW that surprised me was the cost of the live rock and how much of it is recommended. My seahorse tank is 29 gal w 23# of LR. I have about $100.00 in the live rock already and the ratio is 1-2 lbs per gallon. The seahorses are easy keepers and do not require live rock however the more LR the less mechanical filteration needed. I will probably add another 10 lbs of rock and call it good. Another thing that I have found is the local SW stores in Portland, OR are not that helpful in getting you started. My biggest complaint is they do not take the time to talk with you about setting up a tank. They just want you to buy all sorts of stuff. Two shops are always doing three things at once and your lucky to get their attention even as you pay them. I have only found one shop that's helpful, but it has weird hours. I suggested at several stores that they hold beginner talks but they just looked at me blankly! |

| I spent roughly 6 months just reading about SW. I decided to go for it with a 10gal Nano FOWLR but as I was in the set up process I made up my mind I went with a 20gal Nano Reef instead. I don't regret it. Six months into SW, I am now working in the set up of a 80gal Reef tank and another 10gal Nano. FW doesn't cease to amaze me, my next FW project is Discus Keeping.
The SW is like another different ball game altogether. I wouldn't say one is better than the other; SW cost more but in the end is just different -richer in biological terms, yes but not "better" than FW. Just my honest opinion.
