| I think they are like every other dog. They are trustworthy and reliable dogs. They just have a nasty reputation of attacking everything that breathes. In fact, theyre kinda cute lol |

| I think they are severely misunderstood. They are kinda on the same track as the betta, being bred for their fighting behavior (albeit they aren't quite that far along, yet!). I've had friends who've had Pit Bulls who were the sweetest pups though! |

| Ha my cousin has a pitbull and i love her. I would rather get another dog though. Many people think they are dangerous but my cousin's sure isn't. She likes to play a lot. |

| Personally I have one and I love her dearly. The worst thing Sadie might do is kiss you to till your all slimy...and she thinks she is an itty bitty dog and will climb right up in your lap if you let her. Any animal can be made mean or taught to attack but they are just trying to please their people....us.
I just wanted to add here is a pic of Sadie and her friend Butch...Sadie is on the left. She has three other friends that weigh 10 pounds or less and she plays with them just like they are all the same size and never once has she hurt them.
While you are doing your research you will see that a lot of the so called pit attacks are not even pit bulls. Sorry I still have a really sore place in my heart because of a certain football player that is going back to playing football after hanging and torturing these dogs.
Didn't mean to hijack I just love all animals what can I say. Last edited by SWilkins; August 20th, 2009 at 11:27 PM.

| What any dog becomes is a combination of breeding and training. Obviously if you choose to have a dog like a pit-bull for example, that may need some special considerations then you'll need to train around them. All fighting dogs were bred to NOT bite people (read: their handlers), so the ones that do are a great dis-service to the breed... and people are the only ones to blame for that. On the other hand Pit's were bred to fight with other dogs, and with proper handling and the best of the dog, you can temper that insinct. Again... it's people to blame whenever you hear about a dog gone bad. |

| I have to agree with most the posters. It's the owners that are bad not the dogs. Pit bulls are actually a very loving and "eager to please" breed. That's why they are so easily trained to fight. They just want to please there owners and they do whatever gets them attention and praise. They are a beautiful dog and it's just one more thing we as humans are screwing up. Sherry I'm soooo with ya on the football player guy, IMO he's a sorry excuse for a humane...but..that's only my humble opinion. |

| I think Pit Bulls are great dogs. I just think they have a bad reputation since many irresponsible and cruel owners raise them for fighting. My sister's boyfriend has a huge blue nose Pit Bull who is the biggest sweetie ever. He submits to my little 20 pound dog, lol. They have wonderful dispositions as long as they are raised properly. This particular dog grew up in a house full of kids and is totally comfortable with toddlers riding on his back, pulling his tail, etc. |

| Like all dogs, they are a product of their owners. Kept in a loving and balanced home with at least basic obedience training, they are as beautiful a pet as any breed - better than many in fact (provided they're not poorly bred). Let's face it - some people just shouldn't own dogs. Or any pet for that matter actually. This site seems to be full of people who understand the responsibilities of owning animals - not just fish. I wish it were a reflection of society. Unfortunately though, it's not. It's something I feel very strongly about. |

| Too bad everyone is scared of them. If you wouldn't have put your doing this for some thing I would have put that I thought nothing at all. I was scared the first time close to a pit bull because everyone thinks they are bad and rubbed it onto me. |

| I love all dogs, pits included. They're high up on my list. I can never own one though, because when I train my dogs and handle any "issues" that arise, there's not enough background for me to utilize what they were bred for to resolve any problems.
No matter how well you raise a dog, at some time they'll do something you don't like. In order to "untrain" that behavior, I use breed history.
I.e, my giant schnazuer likes to greet every person he meets. He's 109 pounds so he's intimidating. He would greet children in strollers, etc, and that can be very terrifying for a small child. In order to train him to only greet people that want to be greeted, he's been trained that they must speak to him before he's allowed to greet them. In order to accomplish this, I utilized the "working" mentality of him to put him in working mode when I take him somewhere he's only allowed to step away from when someone speaks directly to him.
Pits are great, just like rotties, dobies, german shepherds, and every other breed that has a bad rap due to the ignorance of humans using the dog's natural "protective instincts" to create dangerous dogs. |

| Our pit bull is the goofiest one out of our 4 dogs. He is super friendly to everyone and likes other dogs. 2 of our dogs are 15 lb. Pomeranian mixes and he doesn't have any problems playing nicely with them. He even likes our 2 cats. |

| i have a 67 lb pit and she play with a 7 lb dutchhound, never had any problems, but i delivered and raised her from birth, she has never shown any agression or bit anything, only flies she hates flies, lol. but she is beautiful and loving, she acts mostly like a baby, alway pouting and want to play, she catches frisbies and like to run. but like alot of people have said, its not the dogs fault for being to crule, they were breed for hate and fighting, and raised to kill, illeagaly. but if you find a creditible breeder who doesnt breed for this then you can get a really great dog. i once watched the national staffordshire terrier compitition, which is what they are called in compititions, and not one fight ever broke between the hundreds of dogs there, not one. im am sorry for the long post but it just upsets me when the goverment is tring to take my dog from me, making laws about not being able to have the dog of your choice. take the animal abusers and killers not the poor inicent dogs. |

I do wish that there was a way to protect all dogs of all breeds from ignorant owners. With most of the dogs I train, they're on their second or third home (if they're lucky) and behaviors have been initiated by ignorant people. |

| when it comes down to breeding dgos for a way to pay your bills alot of breeders dont care who they sell to,there should be some kind of background check that breeders have to do, so stupid people dont get dogs. or mabey the breeders should be inspected or something. i wish i had a big enough piece of land to start my own kennel, i know my dogs would be the best.
oh and bolivianbaby, do your train dogs or rehibilitate hurt dogs?? |

| A neighbor of mine had a Pit. It was so friendly and gentle. Every time it got near someone on the sidewalk they would just move to the corner. It was so sad, all the poor thing wanted was a little love and affection, the only affection it saw was from it's owner, who loved that Pit very much. It sadly was put down because of bone cancer at age 14. |

To answer your question, I do both. I train dogs and I psychologically rehabilitate dogs. My training methods are done through canine psychology, so the dogs understand what is being expected of them and the owners realize what the dogs need from them and how to be a strong, fair, pack leader. |

| I'll train any dog, any age, any breed, any problem. My experience is mostly with family dogs that have developed (or came to the family with), annoying habits, such as biting, jumping, etc, but I've also had experience rehabilitating dog-aggressive dogs, food-aggressive dogs, etc. Most dogs have a "switch" that flips just before the negative behavior occurs. Learn that switch, block the behavior, re-direct the behavior, the dog un-learns the behavior and everyone's happy The dog continues to have a home and doesn't get sent to the pound. |

| I think pit bulls get a bad rap, I have a half pit/half lab who is 11yrs old and he's gentle and loyal and never bit anyone. Other people who have pits say the same, unless you train the pit bull to be mean, but if you train any dog to be mean they'll be nasty, it's all up to the trainer/owner. |

| My aunt trains pit bulls to be nice. She had a staffordshire bull terrier but it was the sweetest thing. It got hit by a car so she rescued a shelter pitbull and it is the sweetest thing too. They are tough though. Her pitbull loves to chase it's tail and It was spinning and hit it's head on the wall and made a dent in the wall. |

| You guys wanna hear the real ferocious breed? The Chihuahua. Yep you heard right. I swear if those things were 20 or even 10 pounds lighter they would be outlawed in every state. But since there so small their agressiveness is viewed as "cute".
I also have a Chi-Chi and but it's not aggressive. When you train this dog, start early, start early, start early! If you wait 2-3 years then you will have a 3 pound nightmare. Preventative medicine (early training, not actual medicine) stops aggresion in the Chi-Chi. Last edited by 10gallonmadness; August 30th, 2009 at 05:43 PM.

| That's true, the majority of dog bites do come from smaller dogs. However they get less press because, really, there's only so much damage a chihuahua can do compared to a pit bull or a rotti.
I'll stick with the big dogs... they typically bark less. |
