i have never believed any fish was better than the other.
IMO tetras are the most active schooling fish.
though corys, and silver dollars are good schooling fish as well.
A betta? Now that would be a site to see, schooling bettas!

Tetras, however in most of our tanks we won't see the really tight nice schools we see other places. Thats a defense mechanism they use, so unless they feel threatened the schools are not that tight.

Good morning. Take into consideration too, in order for them to really school they have to have room to swim (meaning larger tanks). Slug made a good point about them schooling tightly when they feel threatened.

I love corys. They're just so cute. I have 5 and not only do they hang together, they each have an individual personality.

Harlequin rasboras are probably my favorite, but rainbow fish take a close second place.

Rummynose tetras are by far the tightest schoolers I have ever kept. Even when I kept them in a 45 gallon small fish community where they were the largest fish (little perceived threat), they still schooled tightly.

Not all barbs are fin nippers. We have 5 snakeskin barbs (relatively rare I think) and they are as peaceful as small tetras. They school pretty well, but not like rummies.

I think Neon tetra's or cory's are good schooling fish.

My choice would be Harlequins. I also like Zebra Danios.

Schooling Bettas, that would be cool.

A school of either neon or cardinal tetras under a fluorescent light is soooo cool! I see a lot of them in display tanks in stores in my country! They're beautiful especially in planted tanks where they would show off their glows. Some of them don't school tightly though but I've only seen one or two schools of tetras in a store that school really tightly! It's so beautiful!
