I love the way Vista manages the memory. The more memory you have, the faster it runs...pretty sweet. I'm holding out until Windows 7 in October, but I'll probably get it for my birthday (January).
I am proud that I have circumvented an entire Windows generation. hahaha.
(well almost...we got it for my wife's new PC because we had to buy SOMETHING...and we didn't want to buy the antiquated XP) |

| | Fish Keeper | PC = Video Games and much much easier to use. XP is better than vista because vista can't help that much if it isn't connected to the internet. XP is easier to use too. I use vista but miss XP. XD |

My big issue with Mac is availability of software. I don't care how stable the system is if I can't get the programs I want to run. |

| | Fish Addict | 1 Lap-top with Windows Vista = 400$
2 desktops with Windows XP = 950$
1 Forgotten Windows 95 in the basement (amazingly runs faster then on of my XP desktops ) = 75$
Watching a generation of technology inantiquate itself = Priceless |

| | Fish Master | I voted PC but really... I don't know. I've never and had any major troubles with my XP or Vista or anything. Sure as my computer got older the internet ran faster then it did but that's not really the OS's fault. I dislike Mac's because I don't understand them. I can't find anything on them, I can't use them. However deep deep inside me is a computer nerd dying to escape... and so when I have the chance to get a 2nd computer to play with I'll be picking up a Linux os. |

It will resize the windows partition and install a dual boot loader automagically.
no need to get a new pc ;-D
I recommend Linux Mint, it's a derivative of Ubuntu. It comes installed with a lot of software that Ubuntu can't bundle for licensing reasons.
even so, I still prefer windows. Web pages don't display properly in Linux for some reason, and a lot of media codecs use a lot of resources because they're not native to the Linux kernel.
...and you can't play PC games :-( http://www.linuxmint.com/
(download the .iso and use nero or similar to burn the image to a CD. Then boot with the CD, it will first run the entire OS off the CD (see windows do that lawlz) and give you the option of installing to the hard drive if you like it.
You can also install it to a sufficiently sized USB flash drive (I used a 4gb drive), if you don't want to goof with your windows install. it won't run as well as on a hard drive though. I strongly recommend physically unplugging your PC's hard drive before doing this, you don't want to accidentally overwrite your windows partition! ) Last edited by Tavel; September 7th, 2009 at 11:06 PM.

That is assuming that your laptop allows you to boot from USB drives. I think most computers do these days, but you might have to do some research to make sure.
You could then install install it to the flash drive from a friend's desktop. I definitely want you to physically unplug the hard drive to eliminate any foolish mistakes.
then you can just plug your flash drive into any computer and run Mint Linux everywhere you go! |

I have used Macs, and they are fantastic for multimedia....but not much else for me ^^
I'm a gamer too and find using PC's much more accessable. |
