| Do you bury your fish or flush em? Mods, feel free to move this tread around. I wanted to know. My idea for this thread is since my bloodfin tetra died. Me, I just bury them. |

| Flush. Burial at sea, or as close as you can come to it anyways. |

| I bury my bettas, and some of my others.
But I have flushed some. My mom just threw one out.
I prefer burying, not rotting in a sewer. |

| We've flushed the few we've lost, but when I was a kid, my parents would bury them in the backyard.
I do not see myself flushing our betta or gouramis. |

| I usually bury them in a nice place in our yard. If it's the middle of a blizzard or something obviously I don't though, and then I just give the poor thing to my dad and he 'takes care' of it........ |

| Bury them. Bio-degradable. Environmentally correct. Good fertilizer for the garden. |

| You could have them stuffed. But it may not be worth hiring a taxidermist to petrify a 3 inch fish. |

My friends dad has a 90 gal. that he used to have set up with a large pleco and some "sharks" (I'm guessing ID's).
There was an electrical storm & a surge killed them all in the tank. So he buried them all in his garden to fertilize his corn. He swears it was the best corn he's ever eaten. ;p |

| What if you had a live planted tank? Could you leave the corpse in to fertilize the plants? |

| I bury them, but if the weather isn't allowing it, I put them in the freezer and wait until its a good time. |

| My dear Hubby takes care of this part of fishkeeping for me..I just really can't handle it....I actually don't know what he does, I've never asked, and honestly don't want to know..Poor things..It's just so sad when we lose fish. |

I can do it, Todd Downey said as he helped himself to another ear of corn from the steaming bowl... |

| I have never had a dead fish but if I ever do I'll soap carve a tomb stone and bury he or she in the backyard. Last edited by Chrisson; March 28th, 2009 at 01:12 AM.

| Yeah, it is pretty hard to lose fish. I wouldn't flush a fish ever. I would at least wrap it in a tissue and then let it go free in a river or pond. I never use my dead fish as fertilizer. |

| I wouldn't release a fish into a river/lake/pond.
The fish that died may have a disease that can be given to other wildlife.
Nothing captive should be released into the wild - dead or alive. |

| Flushing is the best way to go. its quick, easy, won't smell or be messy, and it can be considered a proper burial since its going into the water (at least if you only think about the first part of the journey ) The fish is dead, it can't possibly be harmed by anything in the sewer. |

I flush mine, burial at sea. Well, at least, I did that for a goldie and a tetra, I don't know how I'd feel about flushing my big gourami or my little cories. I'd just cry. And probably bury em. |

I made the mistake of trying to flush him and he ended up backing up the toilet.
We has to pour draino into the bowl to dissolve him so he would fit down the pipes. |

| I bury each of my fish under a plant in the garden.
The exception is the otos, which I usually don't notice that one has died until I see a skeleton at the base of a plant. |

| I have a few fish that I've watched grow and got big enough to stuff, and some that I paid plenty for. I can't imagine what I'd do if I had salt water fish!!! It may not be a bad idea! |
