| | Fish Keeper | Betta or Dwarf Puffers I am having SO much trouble deciding what I want for my tank. So I thought I'd let you guys help me decide.
I have a 10 gallon I want to set up. I'll probably get it started this week. When it's ready I either want to get 2 dwarf puffers (darn your influence Pink!) or 1 betta (hopefully one of Martinismommy's beautiful fry).
Help? |

| | Fish Master | Oh, another solution is divide. 5gs for a betta, 5gs for a dwarf puffer. |

| | Fish Keeper | Would the dwarf puffer be okay by herself/himself? |

|
| | Fish Master | Yup! I only have one They're not schooling or schoaling fish at all. They're actually quite territorial. That's why a 1" fish needs about 5gs of room. |

| | Fish Keeper | This may be stupid questions, but will I need 2 filters? And also, would one heater be fine? |
| |

|
| | Fish Master | You could have two, but I don't think it's 100% necessary. I don't use two in my divided tank, but rather put an airstone on the side without a filter to create water movement and flow through the divider. One heater is fine in my experience.
I'd put the filter on the side with the puffer if you only get one filter. |

| | Fish Keeper | Thanks Pink. I'm so excited. I can't wait to have the tank set up and cycled! |

|
| | Fish Master | yay! i definitely agree with pink
some people rotate the filter from one side to another. also, if you're going to divide the tank, id consider siliconing the divider (the silicone will come off pretty easily with a razorblade if you eventually decide you don't want it on there anymore). that way you reduce your chance of somebody breaking through to the other side! |

| | Fish Keeper | another thing you could do to help increase flow between the sides is to have the intake on one side of the partition, and the output in the other side. that way, there has to be flow. another way might be to get a powerhead or pump and direct that towards the partition.
i think doing both is the best of both worlds, but you'd likely be limited to 1 dp as opposed to the original 2 :/ |

| | Fish Keeper | I like the idea of putting the intake on one side and the output on the other! I bought a Marineland 100 today, so I'll probably set up the tank tomorrow. Yay! |
