| The Final Cut was released when I was immersed in Pink Floyd. It is special for me because I lived the experience of actually discover it in real-time, not a bunch of years after it was produced, released and reviewed by others. It portrayed the world as it was in early 1980s: Falkland Island war, Cold War... I considered PF my favourite band during my 16 to early twenties. I agree with PFP the album as a whole, not individual songs, make PF music a work of art.
Two suns in the sunset may not make much sense today, but nuclear threat was a major -even if perceived more than real- issue back then.
However, I must add that the big thing about PF work is that those lyrics while literally referring to the signs of our times, they made all sense to me in my inner world issues.
I had my own risk of nuclear meltdown inside. I hid behind paranoid eyes at times. I was comfortably numb for long time... and... cold as razor blade, tight as tourniquet, dry as a funeral drum? I've been there too.
Take the poetry in wish you were here song:
Waters refers to Syd Barret psychotic disorder as if it were an option for him, truth being told he didn't choose to play a leading role in a cage, but what a powerful image to get the message out of core human existential issues portrayed in the self-other dimension: the option was to take a walk on part in the war, so go figure.
I love PF. Their music means so much to me. I had all their LPS up to Momentary Lapse of Reason. And then the bootleg recordings...

Santo Domingo | Ah, Pepe. So many Pink Floyd songs mean soooo much to me as well. I can't tell you how many times I've heard a PF song and thought just how perfectly it fit into what I was feeling... The Final Cut is one of their most emotional albums in my opinion, and the song "The Final Cut" has always been very powerful to me for many reasons.
I don't think I've ever heard songwriting more touching and meaningful than Roger Waters'. Bob Dylan can go kick a box. (Although I love him too ) |

| haha I do too. Luckily at my work I can listen to music, watch movies, etc, so I listen to lots of music. Today I listened to like 4 hours of Bob Dylan and then some George Harrison lol. (while drawing a pic of Bob Dylan of course, and yes, this was all at work )
Even though Pink Floyd doesn't have the happiest lyrics most of the time, just hearing them makes me so happy cause they are just so amazing! |
