| When I was 3, my mom bought be a 15 gallon tank, and a trio of platies. I absoultely loved them. To this day I hold my mother responsible for my addiction to livebearers. (: |

| My first fish was Shee-Sho the betta, who lived in a vase until we moved, and then went on to live in a friend's community fish tank for another year and half.
My second was Seiko the betta, who lived in a cookie jar until he died, and is now buried in the back yard.
My third (and first since I've become really interested in fish) is another betta, whose name is really Scipio, but no one can pronounce it, so we call him C3PO, or just 3PO, is living in a 4 gallon tank now. I also have a girl betta and a cory cat in another tank.
I think I may have also once had a goldfish in a bowl.... |

| I started with 1 male Betta, then 2 female Bettas. The females got along famously in a 10 gallon tank. The male was in a 5 gallon tank. Next fish were Platies and CoryDoras. |

| I was about 3-4 years old, and started with a good old red capped oranda. I miss it, I just might go get another for my pond this summer.

| Wow, can't believe I've been a member here for years and this is the first time I've seen this thread.
I started off with serpaes and red-eye tetras. To this day, I think tetras are my favorite overall species. Lots of beautiful tetras to choose from and most have good community tank personalities.
So many fish, so few tanks..... and thus, multiple tank syndrome is born. |

| I voted livebearers, because that was the first fish I got when I started keeping fish for a little over a year ago.
But then I remembered.... From I was 5 yrs old til I was 8 1/2 (I'm 17 1/2 now) I lived with my family in Caracas in Venezuela. I went to the International school there, and once they held a fair where me and my younger brother won each our little fish in a plastic bag. One was black (named Blackie) and the other was gold (named Goldie). We thought they were goldfish at the time, but now that I think about it I don't think they were (too small and not the right shape I think). But anyway, we kept them in a small see-through bucket (!) becuase my parents didn't want to spend money on a tank Neither did we have a filter, heater or water conditioner or anything. Not surprisingly they didn't last long...
At the same time some friends of ours that lived two floors above us had a beautiful blue betta I think in a small bowl that I fell in love with Last edited by Linni93; May 24th, 2011 at 11:05 AM.

| When I was 4 I had a few lion head goldfish, and a pleco, in a 2 and a half gallon tank. I don't remember what happened to them though. Because I had goldfish like when I was 2 but they might of died. Anyway whichever time it was, we went to visit family and she had my dad dump them into to ditch when there was water |

| I started out with a betta in a bowl back when I was like 3. My mom said I killed it by giving it a bath and I cried for weeks.
Then first fish I can remember in a tank was we had a community tank with mollys and stuff but I can BARELY remember it but the first fish I really remember was this absolutely massive oscar we were given. They gave us the tank and all for free if we took him. I was always in awe of him he was the first fish I had to bury instead of flush. I've still never had a fish that large since. |

| My first fish was a goldfish that I won. I was only 9 and didn't know any better, so I kept the poor thing in a bowl. Needless to say, it got swim bladder, so we moved it to a tank and by a miracle, I somehow managed to cure it. Even though it was in a tank, I didn't perform maintenance on it as nearly as often as I should have, because I thought the filter would take care of the job. I feel so bad for that goldfish and wish I could have taken care of him better. I could have had him to this day instead of just three years. |

| I think my first fish were guppies. My neighbor had an aquarium with guppies, and they kept breeding and breeding, so they gave us a bunch of them. We also had a goldfish in there, and a few other kinds of fish. I feel bad, because it was a 10 gallon tank with a huge goldfish and tons of guppies. But the goldfish lived probably 3-5 years, and we had just the guppies in there after that. We didn't know about water changes or prime or any of that, we just stuck a HOB filter on there, so I'm really surprised they all lived as long as they did.
We also had a betta in an unfiltered flower vase. People told us that they didn't need a filter, and that they preferred dirty water, so we only did minimal water changes. I wish we'd known differently.
ETA: Actually, my VERY first fish (when I was really young) was a mud puppy (or what we called a mud puppy...). I'm not sure what they are, but that's what we called them. We had three actually. I'd forgotten about them... Last edited by twilauren; September 14th, 2011 at 01:48 PM.

| I have vague memories of a old fashioned gold fish bowl when i was a kid but im not really counting that as my first fish.
My first fish were a Pearl Gourami and Honey Gourami that i bought at the same time as the first inhabitants of my 36 gallon. The Honey i lost a few months ago, but the Pearl is still goin strong. |

| My first was and still is Happy, my golden wonder killi. He's still my happy boy! I'll be truly devastated when he is no longer here. I don't even want to know what a killi's lifespan is because I don't want to know roughly how long he may have left. |
