We've paid $80 buck for a wc caribe piranha which was 10" big.
2 of our fancy plecos were $40 each at 1" big The blue panque and the blue phantom. We got those plecos a year ago.
I also paid $30 for an angelfish at a lfs...only to have it die when I couldn't get my money back. (won't be doing that again) Datnoids at 1" are $30 each but if you buy them in quantity they are cheaper.
Most african cichlids are at least $12 and range to $50 at our lfs.

If we're talking about price per 1 fish, then the most is $15 that I paid for my Gold Pearly Veiltail Angelfish, even though it was still quite small! I paid half the price that same day for my Blue Blushing Angel of the same size. But I don't regret one penny spent on any of my fish, ever

To get to that point, we spent close to 2,000$.

Me either...believe me, my family disagrees.

Oh yeah we bought 2 baby arrowana at $60 each. One was murdered by a 2" baby oscar. I was not impressed.
I just realized I don't buy really expensive fish...my boyfriend does.
$30 is the most I have spent.

The most I've spent was like 10 dollars (that's about how much mollies cost over here, but am not bothering with an exact exchagne rate, so that's a really rough and ready figure).

Husband bought his fancy pleco for about 50 dollars. Men are such fish-snobs, LOL.

the most ive paid is three bucks for a mollie and sword
It's all a matter of choice. For example, if someone chooses to start a marine tank, they are going to be paying over $20 for most of their fish.
If someone chooses to raise show koi, they're going to be paying hundreds, or even thousands of dollars per fish.

put if you just like to watch fish swim around in a tank at your home...the most i would pay would be around $50...and that would have to be a very healthy fish

One of Sting's (the singer) coy cost him 1 million euros!

My parents are getting coys (I fear the worst for the poor fish, but that's another story). You can get the smaller ones for the price of discus (about 50 dollars).

Armadillo from what I hear you are correct. There are a lot of rockers out there who you would never believe that did not use drugs. For some its just a persona that that they wear on stage. Also a lot of old timers who used to use.. are no longer doing so.
Look at KISS, I love watching Gene Simmons show. He is about as stright laced as they come.. and I would have never believed it by watching them on stage.

Please tell me that they have a pond, or at least plans to get a 100+ gallon tank.

Small koi for $50 Are they buying show quality? With how readily koi breed, the "junk" koi go for $5 or less around here. They're very pretty fish, they just don't have the specific traits that breeders look for (stuff I don't even understand).

Thank you so much for your reaction, Sirdarksol. I've been going crazy trying to convince them that what they were doing was cruel, and I am so mad that they won't listen. So am glad that am not going mad, and some people agree with me that 5 goldfish in a small tank is crazy.

I thought I'd gotten through to my dad but yesterday, we went to the chinese restaurant, and he cracked a joke about the fact that I probably thought the fish at the chinese restaurant needed a lake.

This after hours of painstakingly showing him references that condone what I am saying about them needing WAY more than a fish bowl.

Argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!
