That's because in general they are better, and most of the time cheaper. Mac just charges way to much for their stuff, especially if you plan on playing anything other than solitaire.

Yeah, but that's what I normally do. I love playing sims, so mac would not be the best choice if you want to download junk off the internet, or download games, right?

If you want to game go get a console. A computer system to game is a waste of money. My machine is for work and web.

Well I can do stuff for school on it like: Type a report and print it out, make a slide show on powerpoint, and stuff like that, but mostly it is for games! How else would I be able to pass time when bored?

Nahh, those things are boring, I mean the only place to ride a bike in the middle of winter here is in your house and I don't think my mom would be very happy if I did that. Is pacing considered walking? If so I could talk to my friends on the phone and not be on the computer at the same time. Oh never mind, I always talk to them on the computer and phone . Gardening is really boring, I mean me putting my hands in dirt Playing sports hmmm... Does playing virtual sports games count as playing sports? And hanging out with friends is boring their like: Can we do something else other than watching your fish tank ? Lastly going outside is if your little cousins are tapping the glass in your fish tank saying" Move fishie and sticking their fingers in the water, and pestering the fish" and you need a quick escape. lol.

I've had my Mac for a few months less than 5 years...and it's only crashed once.
That should be all the evidence you need.
However, if you need more (assuming you haven't already bought the computer by now), Macs have plenty of software designed for them, have some games, and can do pretty much anything a PC can do.
The downsides of owning a Mac are basically (a) less games are available, and (b) some programs used by your school/workplace may not be compatible. What I'm referring to is "What!? I have to have this program for a project, but I can't use it on MY computer? What the **** is wrong with the university that it can't buy a few Mac-compatible software CDs!?"
If you're setting the pace, then a Mac is fine, but if you're in a PC-dominated school or business, you may have to resort to using a PC if the company or school is too cheap to buy the equivalent software for Macs. However, I've only had to do this once or twice in the past few years. Microsoft Office is available for Macs, and Macs have music players, photo hosting software, and all sorts of other stuff.
EDIT: Cherry, how about playing an instrument? That's how I spend a lot of time.

Windows, please... I'm a broke college student who spends too much on her fish to buy an overpriced Mac. I have a faster computer now for less money, thanks to a computer nerd brother that put it together for me! (Although, I have to admit... Macs are really pretty. I almost dropped the money to get one, then I came to my senses. It was the equivalent of buying a 2 seater sports car versus a station wagon to me.) OY I BOUGHT A STATION WAGON! I'm too young for that... HA I have the best station wagon around though.

Because, I was totally set on PCs. Using a friend's mac to do some video editing work got me to take a good look at them. Between the stable OS and the best bang for the buck, I switched over.
I'd still not mind a PC, but definitely no to the bomb factory called Windows. Ubuntu will go on those.

For more experienced users like you sound like, you can probably do well with either. For a total newbie I think a Mac would be best because, as has been pointed out, they don't crash, they don't have the virus and spyware problems, they update and upgrade but don't need much patching, and that would allow a person to learn without all the frustration that Windows causes. Like trying to learn to ride a bike and have to repair it twice a day also.

True.. that's why I want my parents to go to a mac.. they drive me nuts trying to explain windows to them and they have so much trouble with it. It doesn't help that they have Vista either.

That's probably true... It took me a while to learn windows (I run Vista now, it's a CRAZY system.) and my mother still doesn't understand it. Fortunately, my dad and my brother are both computer nerds (just don't tell them that!) and I listen well. I think Macs are more confusing to me, but maybe that's just because I've learned Windows and have just gotten comfortable with it. I bet my mom would do well with a Mac... She's looking for a new laptop, maybe I'll suggest that she go to the apple store to play with one.

One way to get a mac cheaper is to buy the basic system from the apple store, then upgrade the ram, hd, etc from one of the online sites. I love the Mac OS but don't have any particular loyalty to a company. I just want the best computer.

Again, you need to compare the total cost of ownership. Mac is more expensive up front, but the same over the lifetime of the computer, because you upgrade less often, typically higher quality control (if you discount the old Performa line) on the various components, and longevity of the system. At work, we typically get 5 years out of a Mac and 3-4 out of a PC. Less with the latest round of Dells, seems they're having a rather hard time getting reliable hard drives that last more than 18 months. At home, I'm only on my third Mac since 1994. Would probably be only the second, but I lost one to a lightening strike on the house. As well as two TV's, a wireless phone, several lamps and a microwave. But that's a different thread...

You can get a pretty decent PC running Windows XP for only a few hundred $....
Or, you can get pretty decent PC w/ no OS and put Linux on it which is a free, stable, and powerfull OS.
Or you can get a MAC, although MACs will cost more, but if you want no fuss, no mess, easy to use w/ out being a computer whiz....
Get a MAC...
