Re: Plecos

Oh good. I've had some common plecos and a couple were really daring and the other half were painfully shy. We've got this leopard pleco now and he's ALWAYS hiding. It's a pain.

What pleco doesn't produce a lot of waste is what I tell myself. The gold spots don't eat algae, do they? I think only the common and the bristlenose do among the larger plecos.

Re: Plecos

Gold spot just as in gold nugget?

My leopard plec comes out sometimes to suck the glass most of the time at night even though the tank light is on but sometimes like now he comes out during the day too.

Re: Plecos

maybe a moonlight setup for the tank would be a cool way to watch the plecos and make them feel more at ease?

Re: Plecos

I wouldn't know how to have a moonlight setup. Am no good at lightbulbs and that sort of stuff.

Re: Plecos

I remember on another site this guy set up an amazon biotope with BN and royal panaques and they only came out at night so he used 1" PVC pipes in his canopy and drilled holes in the sides and set in blue LED lights at a 45 degree angle and that caused the most realistic moonlight effect I have ever seen, rather than justfrom above or the sides it was from all around.

I don't know what L number mine is, all I could find out is that it is a long forgotton L number, probably too well forgotten. Now he has calmed down a bit more and enjoys schooling with my otos until I try to take a picture, then he bats away the otos, a true camera hog!

My common pleco always was a strange one, I raised him from about 1/4-1/2 inch baby to a 7 inch gentle giant. He wouldn't eat anything under water, he ate duckweed, floating zuchini and flakes off of the surface and he swam with my barb school.

Re: Plecos

I currently own 2 plecos, a clown pleco and a rubbernose pleco. I think they look great, the only thing is, I don't see the clown pleco very much and when I do, it is always trying to hide from me or anyone else who approaches the tank. The rubbernose pleco is so neat, the only thing is, when i go to take a pic of him, he goes and tries to get into a cave or behind something so I can't get the pic that I want and comes out whenever the camera is away, I think he is a little camera shy.

On SUnday I will be getting 3 L52(Butterfly Plecos). I am going to ask the guy if he can give me 1 male and 2 females so I can breed them myself and then sell them to places.

Re: Plecos

My new favorite plecos are my L52(butterfly pleco). The only downside, is I bought them when they are fully grown. They are so cute though.

very cool.. where did you find him? we almost got a nearly full-sized L333 at a fish auction, but the bidding went to high for us.

I went to buy tubifex/bloodworms at my LFS and as usual just walked around checking what they in store. I got a shock when i saw this small little thing sitting under a piece of wood. The guy insisted it was a 'zebra pleco' but i knew it definitely wasnt. Took it anyway as it was too good a chance to miss!

Yes, I have one. He's sort of like a brother in law, hangs around, not doing anything other than eating my driftwood and looking ugly. But I've had the old boy several years now, and I don't feel like getting the courts involved to evict him.

got my 3 bns! 1 girl, 2 boys. the 2 boys live in the 45gal and the female in the 28 gal. may breed them one day when i have more time and space! at the moment they seem very happy where they are. they are peaceful and keep my tanks immaculate! the tanks are both in south facing rooms and have the tank lights on for 14hours or so a day so should be full of algae.....but the plecos see to that! they are permanently looking for food so get topped up with algae wafers and cucumber as i worry, cos there's just no algae for them!
