does fishlore.com need more salt water fanatics

It does seem that most of us keep freshwater doesn't it. We had a 30g salty last year but got bored with it. Need a big tank to have the fish we want...eventually my bf wants the 120g as salt water. But I prefer planted freshwater tanks.

yeah agree about the size as most people want tangs and cant blame them they are lovely fish and the corals are nice too but it is hard work which a lot of people arnt willing to do but in my opionon is well worth it

alot of us FW addicts are also SW addicts through YOU guys! I dont have the funds to put the time into SW setups but I am addicted to seeing the SW people sharing their stuff!

Oh they are lovely and yes the bf did a lot of work spent $1000 setting up the 30g. He wants lion fish and triggers.

i don't think a 30 gal is big enough for a trigger let alone triggers.

To be honest, Fishlore has quite a few saltwater people as it is. And also some of them don't have freshwater tanks because the saltwater tanks is enough work for them as it is. And there are most people, like me, that have lots of freshwater tanks and a saltwater tank or two.

I'm currently researching to make my 75gallon a FOWLR, which will eventually become a reef setup. After getting the tank, stand, heater, powerheads, etc for $150, it's going to be another $700 to get it setup before adding any fish! I'll be building my sump this week since I've tested the heater, water pump, etc, and everything works great. I hope to have the tank up and running within 2 months, and my first fish within 3 months.

Compare this with my 55gallon freshwater setup: $100 for tank/stand/rocks/heater/filter. I added rocks from a local stream, plants at $20, driftwood at $25, bubble wall for $20, and $70 worth of fish. The price scale doesn't even compare to the saltwater setup. The T5 lights alone will cost more than my freshwater setup, but it's worth it, IMO. I also have a divider for my 10gallon, and another betta will be in there shortly, I hope...At the end of July, I didn't have any fish tanks here, lol...now I've got 140 gallons worth.

I will jump into SW when I honestly feel ready for the challenge. I guess most of us begin with FW and venture into SW when affordable (both in terms of money and dedication).

I can tell you I can see it coming for next year: 55gal Seahorse Aquarium also FOWLR setting. In the meantime, I'm getting so much out of FW... but I'm doing a lot of reading on SW (kind of the same I did when deciding if coming back into fishkeeping or not), I have read the Nano Reef tank set up -in fishlore magazine- at least twice as well as the Saltwater Tank Set up.

My wife asked me, once she noticed that MTS was here to stay, how many tanks where I aiming at keeping, my response -from my heart- was... not more than fifteen. I figure that as realistic, even counting my dream pond (years ahead) but not fry-raising, hospital or quarantine tanks.

Of course maybe I meant that number for FW only...

i wish i had room for 16 tanks lol in the next few months i will hopefuly (money permitting) be upgradeing to a 7 ft tank and transfering all my reef setup in to there as i wont more tangs a few yellows a naso , inc my hippo that i all ready have and my brown powder tang tang heaven

WOWWOWOWOW!! 7ft sw tank!! I think that would be most fishkeepers dream...again, I think most of us FW junkies would love to have SW as well...how could anyone not ? but I do have to admit, they are coming out with some beautiful FW fish as well..course they wont ever compare to SW but are much more affordable

I thought my 10gal nano reef was going to be a walk in the park money wise. Its small how much can i really spend? HA fooled myself! Thats a small fortune.

I had planned a 40gal reef, and then looked at my 10gal and decided.....yeah right. Needless to say i stuck to freshwater, and got the closest thing to SW in FW i could....Discus!

Discus arn't to far behind. Pounding so much food into them can get expensive. But no where near my Saltwater tank yet. Considering each coral frag can run close to $50. And some of my Zoas/Pallys are the more "Collector type". Like my Purple People Eaters....$50 per polyp. The good thing is they split, so now i have a $150 profit in those.

Fragging coral can offset some of the costs, but it won't pay for the system. Unfortunately we can't grow another fish from a snip of the fin.

i used to have a saltwater tank with clowns, damsels and a blenny i loved it! but after my last fish passed away in dec 07 i only had the blenny left and i ended up giving him away... freshwater was just much easier to set-up.....but now after not doing saltwater im getting the urge to have a saltwater tank fish only ..... i hope im not jinxing myself but after my 55 is fishless which i hope i have the fishies in there for a really long time but eventually i think i may turn it into a saltwater set up............i was trying to convince my mom to set up a 55 or 125 gal tank at her home ...she has the room and the finances lol and told her id do all the work....chuckle.... i told her how wonderful it would look right in front of the fireplace (decorative ) only but as she isnt into fish she declined my offer ... although she did go into the pet store with me and she did say i could set up a betta tank there lol maybe if i start her with a betta it wont be long before the mts hits her!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 55 gallon salt tank...I adore my 3 kids that reside in it...2 clowns and 1 tang...
