What should I put in a 30g tall?
We just got a 30g tall tank - what should we put in it when it's cycled? We won't be adding the fish until after we do the move to Denver so we've got some time to think about it. We decided not to use it for a growout tank for the mahachai betta fry (they'll get a long tank that we'll pick up in denver).
you can see the tank in our tanks/fish thread.

Saltwater in a tall tank is hard. My father-in-law has one and he is always messing with it. You have to do less fish because of the surface area. Still, his reef looks nice!!!

Re: What should I put in a 30g tall?
we were thinking of discus, but to have a happy small school of them even would take more than 30g unfortunately. Stacy's leaning towards the fancy gups and i'm undecided still.

those are cool fish, but not easy to find in most shops here unfortunately. you must get quite the selection of fish in Oz.

For those who voted angels - what kind of angels do you like most? and for the saltwater votes - can we borrow some money? would you go with anemone or coral?

Re: What should I put in a 30g tall?
Hi Dave & Stacy...
I voted Angels!! The reason being is that since you are used to the personalities of the bettas, where they really do interact with us, I thought that you would be very happy with the angels for the same reason. The two angels that I have are so personable...they really watch you.. interact with you and they are smart! Not to mention they sure are pretty.. have such graceful motion... great colors and patterns.. Ive seen a calico that was mostly white with bright yellow head and shoulder area.. gorgeous! Did I mention they are smart?? lol... yeh they are smart all right.. they know when to start looking for you at meal time, its usually when you have this feeling that all eyes are on you. And they are! You wouldn't be dissappointed and they grow to such a nice size. May as well make good use of that 30 tall!! ( forget the guppies.. lol)

Re: What should I put in a 30g tall?
are you able to keep any other fish with your angels? i know they have a tendancy to get tough on other fish when they buddy up or are mating.

Wellllll...... unfortunatly I found that the platys fell prey to the angelfish. Ive had the angels with the serpae tetras and they didnt bother them, but I wouldnt put them with long fin black skirt tetras tho. I think if there are larger fish they may be ok, but then again it depends on what they are. The angels are with the discus right now and are fine with them. I really dont know too many fish that can go with them, but getting a number of angels in one tank sure make a pretty sight all by themselves!
