Pleco Eating

I was curious I have three pieces of driftwood in my tank. I have two plecos i bought them 2 days ago and i have been putting cucumber on my veggie clip and it does not seem like they are eating it. I just want to be sure they are getting enough food to eat.

Re: Pleco Eating

Fish are like people in that they have different preferences on what foods they like. Keep trying different fruits and veggies until you find out what they like. Some veggie wafers in the tank would be a good idea until you get to know them better. Try zucchini.

Re: Pleco Eating

yeah, fish sometimes take a while to realise what you're giving them is indeed food!! stick with it and try dif things and they'll soon get the idea!

Re: Pleco Eating

My plecos are so cool I fed them two algae wafers when i turned the lights out and they both have their own little wafer funny when the mollies and swordtails come around to get a bite he flicks that tail at them it is so funny. Now and then they will let them come in for a pec or to. Both of mine love cucumber took them a while to figure it out it was food but when they did wow they love it.

Re: Pleco Eating

How long has it been? Mine also took a little while to get it. The mollies got it way sooner, clever buggers.

What helps is always placing it at the same spot everytime. What also helps is a large surface area (slice a long piece lengthways rather than giving them a round piece). Also, try to have it flat on the substrate, wiht no bits floating around. If they still don't get it then, wow!

Don't forget to remove uneaten cucumber after max 2 days!

Re: Pleco Eating

I am wondering how much cucumber to feed? I sliced a round piece about half inch thick and all that was left was the outer ring in the morning. I have a 3 inch gold nugget and 3 inch common but I didn't see the common eating any. Also wondering how often to feed the fresh veggies over letting them eat left over flake and algae?

Re: Pleco Eating

For me i just rotate some days i will give them cucumber or zucchini or just drop an algae wafer. I will put in a slice of cucumber 3 inches big with the skin on one side and inside of cucumber on the other i take it out in the morning so it does no cloud my water. That is how i do it anyway.

Re: Pleco Eating

yea its odd my plecos will eat the waffers i tryed getting them to eat cucummbers but they wont listen i told them its good for them and they will like it and still wouldnt touch it. but also my cichlids wouldnt let them near it once they found out what it was. i plan on letting a few peices in over night for the plecos to get while the cichlids are asleep.

Re: Pleco Eating

I will try cutting open length wise and see how they like it that way.

English cucumbers?

I just realized that I was giving my plecos english cucumbers, which aren't that soft as the regular ones. Maybe that's why by BS pleco didn't care too much for it.

I'll buy some soft cucumbers today and try some zucchini also.

I hope my Kribs will like it too, cause I'm not to sure what they're feeding anyway.
