These were my common plecos. I had to give them back to a fish store as my biggest tank was a 150L. Please nobody tell me now that that was enough space, as it was a heartbreaking decision to part with one of them in particular (the small one). Ah well, here's hoping they found a better home.
The first picture shows my favorite pleco. He always came out, night or day, and wasn't bothered at all when I was cleaning the tank.
The second and third pictures shows the two slightly larger plecos I had. One of them was a slightly paler brown. They hardly ever came out of hiding, though.
Here's a pic of mine - I have him in an outdoor pond (150 gal) so the only time I can get pics of him is when I do a cleaning. Usually all I see is his tail sticking out from under the big flat rock he likes to hide under... He was about 4 inches when I got him from my sister may-june 2007. He is now 11 inches long...he shares with two chinese algae eaters and multiple goldfish and mosquito fish.

Reason: put pic back in
My BN pleco, he is about 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch long and he spends most of his time under neath or behind that black box (it holds my filter and heater.)
Nothing fancy, but Mr. Jones is my favorite fish. He was just under 2" when I brought him home, he's now a touch over 7 1/2." And he's a picky eater, he doesn't like cucumbers.
Here's another few pictures of my new fancy pleco. I'll post the exact name later.
One of them's terrible , but hey, there's no minimum quality requirements, LOL. I like it because you see the shrimp being nosy. The piece of driftwood used to be the shrimps' HQ, and got taken over by her since this week-end.
If you look upclose, you'll see how hairy she is! True sign of a night fish, hey.
Here is a closeup of my new bristlenose, my first one. This photo was taken about 2 hours after his release into my tank. He was pretty stressed apparently and it shows in his altered color.
He has since regained his nice dark brown coloration and is occassionally venturing out of his hiding place to explore the rest of the tank.
He seems to be doing better now. He's out exploring, even in the light. Seems when he isn't hiding he likes attaching to the front glass on the same side as the filter.
From what I have read on Planetcatfish his position in the tank makes sense as they like the water flow. And I saw that some plecos change colors like a chameleon to react to stress or surroundings. (Amazing what I can learn when I read ) He is changing fairly often. When he is in hiding he is dark brown and out - light brown with a pattern.
My new BN Pleco that we picked up today. It is about 5 inches long and pretty big. I have another that is around 3.5 inches but its hiding right now and cannot get a good photo yet. It blends in with the driftwood.
What do you think? will it do the job on my algae?

[quote=Barbrella;358681]Is that Species 3? Did you get him at a petstore? I"m surprised he's so big, since most petstores sell them as babies and don't usually have them long enough for them to get big.
They should certainly do a very good job on your algae![/quote
Hi Barbrella
I dont know what Species 3 is? I bought them at a fish store that was not a chain store petstore and this place has a lot of large mature fish there. I measured the larger one and he is just about 5 inches from head to end of tail. the other one is smaller around 3.5 or so.
Here are two photos that may help you to help me identify this BN? and can you let me know what the species 3 is? thanks!
