Lost another BN

When I came home last night from the gym, I found my BN on the bottom of the tank with all it's insides eaten. Luckily for me, it was still under warrenty. I am just wondering what I was doing wrong to have 2 BNs die like that for no reason. The recent one wasn't eating at all, so that might be why it died, but I don't think that is all that was wrong. Please help me, I'm gooing to the store where I got it from after school to replace it.

Re: Lost another BN

Yay, I hope so too. If orgot to put that I had tested the water and it was fine(0 ammonia/nitrite,>20 nitrate).

Re: Lost another BN

waters fine then. i wonder if a parasite could do that? could the parasite have been present when you bought it, and it just took that little bit of time once you got them home to present itself once multiplied enough? be interesting to see what the LFS has to say and if they've any left in store or if the same wiped out their stocks?
I'm sure its nothing you've done or not done as i've seen you around on here and you've had success with your other fish
i assume they had some natural algae or algae wafers to eat? not that that would be enough to kill it if you didnt as fish are hardy and seem to be able to survive a short while without food anyway. let us know how you get on with the lfs and if they have any insight.

Re: Lost another BN

I noticed whatever I gave it to eat, it would not touch it at all, not even a slice of cucumber. I went back after school today and was able to replace it no problem. They just wanted the body, sample of water, and the receipt just to make sure everything was in order. This time I got one that is about 3-4" in length if not bigger(biggest fish I have right now) and as soon as I brought it home, I dropped in an algae wafer and it zoomed over to it, almost pulling the bag fully under water, and started to eat it. I checked up on it a few minutes later, and the wafer was gone and the pleco seemed o have a big smile on it's face as if it hadn't eaten for a long time. I hope this one loves fresh vegetables, cause it has one in there for overnight to eat.

Re: Lost another BN

I have had my ups and downs with plecos also. The lesson I learned is NEVER buy one with a shrunken stomach. That means they are not eating, and when you get it home it will just waste away. Glad your new one is doing good. I have a Royal Pleco now and he is super, has a cute fat belly!
