Whats your plecos fave food?

Up until Monday I thougt my plecos fave food (I have bristlenoses and clown plecs) was cucumber, then I put a mussel in the tank for my other catfish and clown loaches etc and the plecos went mad over it!

Has anyone else tried mussels and if so what were the results? Mine are from the LFS for aquarium use

Hello Diggly. Mine love zucchini and will eat an entire slice, in one sitting, all but the skin. Never tried a mussel. By the time he's done he has created a little bowl.

i had always fed my bn cucumber and alage wafers, then i got a golden nugget and added a mussel and my bn went mad for it! i then felt bad for never giving him one for the 1st year of his life. but now he regularly enjoys his mussel

I take it we are talking raw mussels ? and if so what difference would useing "aquarium use" mussels and the mussels you buy from a fish stall?

I think the first difference is you know you are buying freshwater but other than that I am not sure, it says they are not for human consumption on the packet but other than that I am not sure.

I put in a piece of cucumber, a piece of aubergine, a piece of mango, a piece of melon and 2 mussels for a test (all small pieces) and all the plecos went for a mussel (the other mussel got carried off by my syno ) they go mad for it!

can you put any fruit in a tank (apart from citrus) I have always been unsure about what you can try, but if it is organic fresh fruit or veg can you try most things? I might start trying other foods if i can, i just dont want to put something in then everyone die.

MY Sailfin doesn't seem to like any veggies i have tried, but he goes crazy for the sinking shrimp pellets i put in for my loach. I have seen him in a fedding frenzy where he floats mid-tank twirling the pellet in his mouth.

Anyone got any other ideas on things i can try?
