Aggressive Pleco

Yea so Ive just noticed that my 5 inch pleco is a bit of a warrior. He seems to go after any fish that comes near him. He's actually picking fights with my larger plecos and my bichir. Anyone know why this is happening or am I just lucky.

In my opinion Plecos are very docile fish if they are getting enough to eat. I have a 9" pleco in a tank with guppies and have no problems. I have heard people say that there pleco sucks on there other fish. I have had plecos through out the years and have never had this happen. My belief is that a well fed pleco will never go after other fish.

Seems like you have more than one pleco in the tank, I dont think that a good idea as it makes them aggressive and territorial

Good morning.

I've never had good luck keeping more than 1 Pleco in any of my tanks. Although some members have. There really isn't any aggression from the one I have now (about 8")towards any of my other fish.

I've also read that they will sometimes try to suck the body slime off of other fish. I had this to happen to Discus a time or two in the past. I've also seen where a Pleco would do this to Gold Fish but not always.

Have you tried feeding your Plecos zucchini? They'll love it! Maybe it will help to curb their aggression issues. Worth a try!

Best of luck.
