they are bristlenose eggs
and I have a new pic and as u can see even tho the eggs arnt under the log where they should be the dad is still protecting them he is also "fluttering" his fins over the eggs which im guessing is making sure the water flows over them

well he has done it again. the dad that is. he was doing so good looking after the eggs but when i checked on them this morning they were out in the open at the other side of the tank so i carefully put them back where they were and he moved to them but twice now since then the eggs have been left out in the open and he is just sat in his cave... so what do i do? the last time i put them in a breeding net they all died and one egg that i missed somehow hatched ok so do i try protecting them or just leav them to move around the tank by themselves?

Even though you may lose them I personally would leave them alone and let dad do whatever. Just to see what he does.

I agree. Also, it'll give you an idea of how he is with eggs so you'll know if you need to respond in the future

I would leave him, my male pleco left the eggs sometimes but he would always chase any other fish that even thought about going near the eggs.

well the eggs were tucked under the edge of the log as shown in the first pic and there is no way that any water movement would just "waft" them away and out into the middle of the tank. three times now ive put them back where they were yesterday and 3 times they have ended up out in the open no where near dad who is in his cave so it looks to me like dad has no interest in them at all

try removing the cave and gently putting the eggs into his cave then putting it back, he may be abandoning them because he cant protect them properly under the log, I dont know.

Mine spawned in a small cave that I didnt even think they could fit into lol. I put it in there to help seed the tank from my smaller 20g - fish are weird .

ok i tried that after doing a water change i lifted up the log carefully put the eggs under there and did a water change on my smaller tank when i had finished and looked back in the big tank he had moved the eggs out from the cave and into the open.....

I dont know what to suggest, is it possible they arent fertilized so he has abandoned them? I would leave them be and see what happens, moving them around might cause him to neglect them more.

If they are still orange they are fertilized. Maybe he just wants them where they are. Maybe they get more water flow there. If you continue to mess with them he will abandon them for sure. If they are where they get water flow they may hatch anyway. I know it's really hard to leave them alone but I think that's your best plan. Keep us posted.
