Sailfin Spotten Pleco

Can a sailfin spotted pleco be put in a malawi mbuna african cichlid tank?

My tropical community stocking is really too small for the 75 gallon I acquired last week and set up yesterday. I'd really like to put my malawi african cichlids in there since my stocking is high enough to meet the needs of the african cichlids in the 75 gallon.

My tropical community current stocking is:
4 MM platys
5 pristella tetras
1 dwarf neon rainbowfish
4 false julii corys
1 sailfin spotted pleco
1 bolivian ram

My malawi stocking is:
4 yellow labs
3 striped cons
5 red zebras
3 electric blue johanni
1 pair yellow tailed acei
4 socolofi

I just think the tropical community would be better of in the 55 and the malawi's would be better of in the 75, but I want to make sure the pleco would be good with the africans.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I checked the requirements for the chocolate pleco. They're very similar to that of the sailfin spotted, so I'm gonna give it a shot!

Thanks, Shawnie

Isn't the sailfin pleco the common pleco? I have 2 right now on my cicchlid tank and they are doing great. I also have a Clown Pleco with them too. He is hard to find in between all those rocks.

Not according to the scientific names. The common is hypostomus plecostomus and the spotted sailfin is glyptoperichthys gibbiceps.

Thanks, Navy. I'm VERY happy I can make the 75 the malawi cichlid tank.

They are generally the same fish when you look at size & requirements. The chocolates are a common pleco color variety.

The sail fin (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps) should be fine. I really love mine. Just as a point of interest look how big they can get. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...species_id=148

I can't wait to watch as he gets bigger! Once I brought him home and realized what he was opposed to what I thought he was, he MADE ME buy a 75 gallon tank to accomodate him. He was twisting my arm with his sailfin He's an instigator And yes, it's all PlecoPrincess's fault
